We have different kinds of doors in our newish home. All are the same wood and stained the same though. Most are six panel, though one is a six panel bifold with the flat areas painted in chalkboard paint. That's our pantry door. We also have a bifold door on our upper level laundry room. It has two lower panels with the top panels being louvered for venting. I don't know if that helps you are not. Do you have a floor plan you can share and show where these different doors are? I know Victorians use to do their private areas with simpler materials to make it possible to be able to use more extravagant materials in their "public" areas for show. Is that what you are hoping to acheive? I know we've thought about not taking the time to route the trim (we're still finishing our home) on the upper level to save time. It's more practical.

Prehung doors come with the frames and hinges as one piece. Generally have the holes drilled for the openers. Slab doors are simply the door, no hinges/hardware location holes. Installing prehung doors means you remove all of the old door and frame. You then locate the new door/frame unit in place, plumb and level the frame members, and attach to the wall studs using shims(for plumb) and nails/screws. This can be done with a level, hammer/nails or screws/power screwdriver(drill/etc.). You would need a flat pry bar and hammer/screwdriver to remove the old frame. A reciprocating saw makes that job faster by cutting the old fasteners. Installing a slab means removing the old door, using it to cut the new slab to fit. cutting hinge mortises and opener holes, installing the hinges/hardware, and hanging the slab in the old frame. Replacing a slab means the door is seldom plumb or square and there is a fair amount of difficulty involved in machining the mortises and cutting the opener holes. You need two different sizes of hole saws and hammer and chisel as minimum tools. Professional tools include hinge location jigs and routers for the mortises along with the hole saws. Hinges in prehung doors are generally basic brass colored, so matching hinges to opener hardware would require new replacement hinges. I do not remember ever replacing hinges to match opener hardware. There are lots of videos showing both processes on YouTube.

Kathi-thank you! MaMaison I think I'd like to see a photo of your house to opine on how it would look. Photo 1 is very pretty and I can see how someone would enjoy it, but it's just overly busy for me personally. Photo 2 appears to be all white baseboards, and the only trim that goes to the floor is the entry door... would be interesting to see if they used white or wood trim around the interior doors as well.... Of the 3, photo 3 is my favorite, but again would like to see what they've done through the remainder of the house. Part of the reason is that it has very high ceilings and very classic features. As well, they did not use a bright white, which in Photo 1 really accentuates all of the grid lines. I think it can work, but I think the execution of it is far more difficult than not mixing trim colors. In a home I once owned, one section of the house had all cream trim. When you went through a door to the hall, it was all white. The home had been "done" by an interior designer and it worked, so I kept it. Even so, I was never 100% comfortable with it :)

Leave the fireplace. It fits in the room. Is that actually paneling, or did someone just frame in parts of the wall over the sheetrock? If that is what was done, I would consider removing all that trim on the walls, fill in the nail holes, sand it and prime it and paint the walls, all a solid color. All that trim and framing are way too busy. Once you get furniture in the room, it seems to me, it would look over busy and not very nice. Nice sized room. Nice fireplace and floors.
