boys room adding color in help

I would like to add in some color to my boys room. Do you think it would work to add in this blue plaid throw and blue throw pillow for a pop of color? The room is kind of camp/southwestern themed...

How old are your boys? Children do not generally obsess over these type of things the way that adults do at times.

The room is very neutral - you can add any color. And unless your boys are twins with the same exact tastes - maybe break up some of the uniformity. Ask them what colors they like and let them get pillows and throw in their personal preferred colors. It’s a kids’ room or teens’ room; everything does not have to match. Let them have a bit of their own identities. It looks like a comfortable enough space - but, tbh, right now the room has the look of some type of boutique military barrack.

I lived that myself when my sis and I were kids and can totally sympathize with both boys . . . and you! Do you have enough room to keep both beds on the same wall and add a tallish bookcase with a back on it between them? If you turned it sideways it would act like a very functional room divider. The neat kid could use the shelf side to organize and display his sports memorabilia and equiptment. Attaching corkboard and/or magnetic board(s) to the backside of the shelves would give your artistic kid a place to display his artwork. Or, better yet, how about 2 identical bookcases, end to end, dividing the room down the middle a bit more? Have one facing each way to give the boys some better room division plus added shelf storage and display space? A smallish shelf attached to the backside of the bookcase closest to the wall would give that son a small nightstand area, if he needs it. Wall lamps could be used over each bed for reading. Lynn

Find something of the shade of grey you wanted, and take it to the paint store and ask them to match it. Cool greys can be very unpleasant to live with, look like cement. I got a nice effect once by painting a room dove grey with white trim and a delicate pale birds-egg blue ceiling. Maybe that approach could take advantage of reflected light to give you the effect you want. Good luck!

We have SW Morris Room Gray throughout our house and I think it's a really versatile color. Maybe darker than what you were thinking but it works well and can be more brown toned or gray toned, depending on accent colors & light. One of my friends (after going through numerous grays) also decided to just paint her whole house that color as well since she loved it in ours, and she loves it. I tried BM Edgecombe gray in our bedroom just for something different and promptly painted it back.

Paint the mauve wall either to match the other walls or in that richer caramel color of some of the fireplace stones. Add a large piece of art there instead of the small items. You have no task or accent lighting. Overhead (ambient) lighting is great for seeing how to get into a room in the dark, but then the intimate, pretty lighting should be turned on and the overhead turned off or dimmed way down. It isn't flattering to people or to rooms. Flank your TV with a pair of pretty floor lamps (not torchere style) and then add a table and lamp right of the chair for a reading area.

great room! I would be tempted to add in some warmer earthy colors like clay or umber - for the throw, the pattern seems a little similar to rug and i wonder if they will fight each other? A Pendleton throw would be a cozy addition and would jibe with the camp feel - just some ideas

actually... I don’t drink wine or any type of alcoholic beverages. ( but maybe I should start !! )

Seriously, though, I’m a long-time vegan - and for me alcohol doesn’t go with the vibe .

Also, I really do not mean to be rude, at all; I just call it as I see it.

And so then what is the excuse for your judgments and rudeness?

Look - all I am saying is the room is EXTREMELY uniform; and this is supposed to be a childs’ room or maybe a teens’ room - I don’t know which. So in any case, the idea is - let them pick something that THEY each personally like. Let them have some of their own identity. That is what I said.

It's a really nice looking room. Since I only see one name, can we assume it's just for one child with an extra bed for guests, or do you have 2 boys in there? How old? I probably wouldn't add much pattern because the rug is so dominant and the headboards are also a strong pattern. I think the art is tasteful and 'goes' but it doesn't seem very youthful or joyful (unless they are photos your child took?). I think some vibrant art could really liven up the room and bring in a variety of colors you could play off of. If the art that is there is special, perhaps group it together on one wall and get some more colorful pieces for over the bed. Maybe framed posters of a favorite activity or place?

You can use any color with what you have. I wouldn't have thought to suggest a light blue, but looking at that something on the desk that's blue, it looks really good with the black and white - so would different shades of yellow, red or green - the primary colors would work.

I think you should walk away!! It's a lovely room. Adding more blue for a pop of color in a room full of blue??? Where are their toys, they would be colorful. How about books, kid books are usually very colorful. I immediately thought ORANGE--but really I think the room is great as is, now let them put their marks on the room with THEIR STUFF.

The walls are a very nondescript color. My first thought is to paint the wall behind the beds another color -perhaps blue. Then you can select artwork that compliments that color. Good luck!

I think the room is super cute. I love those beds! I think adding in some reds, oranges or yellows would look great! You can do that by hanging a print with those colors. Or you could add it in pillows or a throw.

It’s a great looking room, but I feel it lacks a fun/youthful feel vs color. Rust would be complementary, but also consider how to add more fun/personality.
