boys room adding color in help

I would like to add in some color to my boys room. Do you think it would work to add in this blue plaid throw and blue throw pillow for a pop of color? The room is kind of camp/southwestern themed...

How old are your boys? Children do not generally obsess over these type of things the way that adults do at times.

The room is very neutral - you can add any color. And unless your boys are twins with the same exact tastes - maybe break up some of the uniformity. Ask them what colors they like and let them get pillows and throw in their personal preferred colors. It’s a kids’ room or teens’ room; everything does not have to match. Let them have a bit of their own identities. It looks like a comfortable enough space - but, tbh, right now the room has the look of some type of boutique military barrack.

You could paint the nook where his bed is red above his head and the wall around the window and ac. Then wrap the red on around just into the white shelf area; the two ends and back wall forming the recess for the shelf. You could also use it to punch up that funky little bit of wall by the door with the dart board. If you paint everything gray first, you can step back and make the final decision before committing to red paint. You may decide that it will be better to paint the furniture red instead. Or you may just want to add red accessories like a duvet cover, pillows and rug. That way, when he tires of red, you can just pop in another color he likes by a simple change of soft goods.

Love the wood work your home is pretty just needs a lighter not so heavy color texture I would paint the walls a lighter color and get rid of heavy dark curtain. Im guessing you like the dark carpet cause its a kid friendly color and they lounge on floor. But it does dull the room. Im not a fan of rug on carpet but it a easy way to brighten the room I would change carpet to a lighter color This board has lots of people that hate any n all carpet If u read this forum its like carpet is the new lead paint it nasty full of germ dirt n you are breathing living in trash lol So just wanted to be one person that suggest a lighter newer color carpet :-)

Most colors are backordered for at least a month, some until almost May. If you need it soon, pick what's available. If you can wait months, pick a color that's easy to wash and won't show marks. Navy blue dye can transfer to sheets and clothing.

I know you didn’t ask, but as a mother I found it easier to teach my kids to make their beds if the beds were not against a wall. It actually doesn’t save much floor space. The exception would be for a little family member of mine who is special needs and needs to be up against the wall so he doesn’t fall out of bed. I, too, like the idea of asking the son what he wants as far as a color or a theme. Then you can pick out two or three items and let him decide. It gives him some control and helps him make choices as he gets older. It can also be a fun project for the two of you. I just read a post from a woman who said her son had been asking for red walls for four years...how sad. He could have had the color than made him happy and when he outgrew the red, a little primer and paint would have redone the room.

great room! I would be tempted to add in some warmer earthy colors like clay or umber - for the throw, the pattern seems a little similar to rug and i wonder if they will fight each other? A Pendleton throw would be a cozy addition and would jibe with the camp feel - just some ideas

actually... I don’t drink wine or any type of alcoholic beverages. ( but maybe I should start !! )

Seriously, though, I’m a long-time vegan - and for me alcohol doesn’t go with the vibe .

Also, I really do not mean to be rude, at all; I just call it as I see it.

And so then what is the excuse for your judgments and rudeness?

Look - all I am saying is the room is EXTREMELY uniform; and this is supposed to be a childs’ room or maybe a teens’ room - I don’t know which. So in any case, the idea is - let them pick something that THEY each personally like. Let them have some of their own identity. That is what I said.

It's a really nice looking room. Since I only see one name, can we assume it's just for one child with an extra bed for guests, or do you have 2 boys in there? How old? I probably wouldn't add much pattern because the rug is so dominant and the headboards are also a strong pattern. I think the art is tasteful and 'goes' but it doesn't seem very youthful or joyful (unless they are photos your child took?). I think some vibrant art could really liven up the room and bring in a variety of colors you could play off of. If the art that is there is special, perhaps group it together on one wall and get some more colorful pieces for over the bed. Maybe framed posters of a favorite activity or place?

You can use any color with what you have. I wouldn't have thought to suggest a light blue, but looking at that something on the desk that's blue, it looks really good with the black and white - so would different shades of yellow, red or green - the primary colors would work.

I think you should walk away!! It's a lovely room. Adding more blue for a pop of color in a room full of blue??? Where are their toys, they would be colorful. How about books, kid books are usually very colorful. I immediately thought ORANGE--but really I think the room is great as is, now let them put their marks on the room with THEIR STUFF.

The walls are a very nondescript color. My first thought is to paint the wall behind the beds another color -perhaps blue. Then you can select artwork that compliments that color. Good luck!

I think the room is super cute. I love those beds! I think adding in some reds, oranges or yellows would look great! You can do that by hanging a print with those colors. Or you could add it in pillows or a throw.

It’s a great looking room, but I feel it lacks a fun/youthful feel vs color. Rust would be complementary, but also consider how to add more fun/personality.
