I need to fit a 14” skillet. that’s way to small for me and no idea what i’d do with that shallow part. i’d rather have a big basin and put drain or cuttingboard over if needed.

Agree with lharpie--a workstation sink with a drain accessory would be more flexible. I have a 29" sink, and it's so nice to be able to fit my largest platters and cutting boards flat on the sink bottom.

Too small as the only sink. I have a Julien sink with a built-in drainboard, but the sink is 30" and the drainboard is 18" .

If this is going into a small kitchen maybe it is the right size. Is it similar to what you're used to? You may regret going smaller than what you already have.

Ok, the drainboard would probably get all dented pretty quick anyway. I'll look for a single basin with a drainboard accessory.

Too small for me. 30” is as small as I’d go. It’s what I have, and it’s perfect. Even full cookie sheets lay flat, with room to spare. In 30”, I can be soaking a pot or two, and still have room to scrub a fry pan.

No need for a sink with drainboard accessory ... just buy one of these. Good price right now. I paid twice as much for mine! Have given them to family members as housewarming gifts and they all use them every day.

People are oversinked these days. A 24" sink is 21" wide by 18.5" front to back. It drops right in to a 24" sink base. You get more usable counter and wider drawer cabinets on that run. There's ample space to wash anything you use. Big non cooking things can go in a utility sink. Tape together cardboard and run a test. Every normal thing will fit fine. Why do we have 36 and 33" single bowls? Because the KD design software defaults to an obsolete double bowl sink. Then you say I want a single bowl. Just dropping in an oversized sink saves the effort of reconfiguring the cabinet layout.

@dan1888 your term "oversinked" cracked me up. I agree to the extent that many people come here and over-prioritize a large sink.

Years ago I was debating sink size and read a @Joseph Corlett, LLC comment where he wrote "I've never heard a person complain about a sink being too big". Made sense. I had the room for it without compromising my layout and went for a Kohler Riverby 33" and... I love it. I can let my daily-used sheet pan soak and not cover up the drain.

It's particularly egregious in the many kitchens with less than 36" work zone counter spaces. Time after time these smaller kitchens need very careful space optimization to be functional. Instead, a giant apron sink and wall ovens are positioned for affect. A range and a 24" sink can provide 42" on super valuable countertop and 42" of wider drawers. In a large space, no problem. I'm a function first person. Then symmetry.

We have a small house with no utility sink, so the kitchen sink is it. I have a 30" sink, which allows me to soak my oven racks.

If I had 2 dishwashers I could get away with a smaller sink haha! Mine is 30" and it often ends up full while waiting for the dishwasher to run/be emptied. Very helpful to have room for a large skillet or sheet pan plus a little extra. I've never felt the need for 33" or 36" though.

I like being oversinked. I need more room than that for sheet pans and such oversized hand washables. I had a 28" and that was fine, no smaller. My current sinks are bigger, not sure how much, but they are small bathtubs and I am good with that.

When you install a 36" workstation sink with a cutting board right over the disposal, you've added, not taken away, functional countertop space.

One in 10,000 36" sinks is a more functional workstation sink. Is that one of your installs? How many have you done? Another potential benefit of a larger sink could be dual use if two faucets are installed at the corners like the above. The above sink shows poor placement from the way each counter to the side is angled. Pretty much single person one-at-a-time usage. That's why corner sink placement is a poor choice.

Kitchen design can prioritize space to give you good function. I'm not suggesting there aren't times where you'll enjoy a larger sink. Twice a year oven rack soaking might be one. A small kitchen is likely to benefit many times over from the added drawer and counter space while a 24" sink meets 99%+ of daily needs. A cookie sheet can be lined with parchment paper or those with sides hold hot water to soak for 10 minutes on the counter next to the sink. Ingenuity, I don't bet against it. . . .Looks are a consideration. The value fades quickly when daily life in the new space takes over. . . .Oversinking is a reality in America. If you have enough counter and cabinet drawer space in your design, then a larger sink can be next on the priority list. It should not be the default it is now.

I have a 25" bowl sink in my current kitchen and hate it. It's the thing I am most looking forward to changing, going to a 33" single bowl. maybe its an over reaction, but I hate spilling water on the counter when Im trying to wash a sheet pan.

My mother (and now I) soak the oven racks in the bathtub. Put a towel in the tub bottom, lay down racks, turn on water. Then use the personal shower head to rinse off.

Efficient use of space is key in a tight kitchen.

When we remodeled our kitchen last year, we kept essentially the same fairly small footprint but made a couple cabinetry changes, including reducing the size of our sink cabinet to all space for our cabinetmaker to increase the size of an adjacent cabinet to make the interior storage space much roomier and infinitely more useable. That mean going from a 30” double bowl sink to a 28” single bowl Kohler workstation sink. I love the flexibility of having a cutting board that can fit inside the sink on the ledge or be used next to the sink. The workstation sink also has a silicone drain board that I use at the other end and when both the cutting board and drain section are in place, the space in the center is only a few inches wide. But it’s easy enough for me to roll back a few inches of the drain board section or slide the cutting board onto the countertop. The bowl itself at 28” is more than ample for my pans, platters and racks.

Previous posters are right on the money about the importance of optimizing every inch of space in a smaller kitchen. Finding the sweet spot will help make a kitchen more functional and more pleasant to work in. Having the flexibility of the workstation sink has been great, 6 months post-reno. And the improved storage space we gained has made a huge positive impact. The workstation sinks are made in several sizes, with varying accessories included. For us, it was a fantastic solution.
