IMO look at commercial chandeliers and IMO you can go almost as big as the space between the sofas and you will need to make sure what ever you get does not swing in the air movement from AC or heat . Just one more reason to not have 18' ceilings ever .I think you can easily go 60" but the big issue is you need to find one that actually lights the space below not the ceiling .

We recently renovated my daughters family room which is very similar to your space in size (actually a bit smaller @16x18) also with a 2 story ceiling), and we chose 19TH C. ENGLISH OPENWORK ROUND CHANDELIER 72" from Restoration Hardware. Obviously not cheap, but there are others out there with a similar look. You definitely need something LARGE and it’s also important not to hang it too high (which is key).

What do you consider reasonably priced?

I love the black wrought iron one that @Beth H posted! Your room doesn’t look like a “wagon wheel” type of light would work. You need something transitional. The wrought iron one seems just right.

Your room is quite cozy and inviting, so too “formal” won’t work either.

i am replacing all light fixtures so the dining room fixture will go also. it disconnected from the family anyway

i am not a fan of the wagon wheel fixtures. its why im struggling. we do like the two tier led ring fixtures but nothing too modern or sparkly

let me guess without reading the comments, everyone said wagon wheel.. which I now believe is in every 2 story ceiling in America lol. I would lean more modern. can you post a picture of the one you returned? id like to see the volume it had, some chandeliers that are 42 might work, based on fullness if that makes sense.

I love the volume of your space. When you do a search for chandeliers, go for “palace sized” chandeliers. That will get you into the size parameters that you want and need. I like the wagon wheel style ones in your space, but in brass. And some of the modern ones are great too! Glad you have a “reasonable” budget! 😜

No, unfortunately. i think something just a bit larger and hanging lower will do it. there are 65 inches between the couches and the fireplace is wider than that space.

I still think your first choice was the best one.

I was planning to hang it lower. level with the ceiling on the first floor.

i cant get the first option to hang lower than 7 feet. ceilings are 18. 10 on the first floor

im not sure 11ft off the floor is a bad thing, do you really only want to see the top of the fixture and chain from the second floor?
