Are they purely decorative and will remain open, or will they be closed part of the time?

We rarely close them. If we sre going to be away from the house for vacation, we close them, bur everyday use, we dont open and close them regularly, unless the sunnisnblaring in, which is extremely rare, as we have a screened in porch with a roof that shields the sun .

I vote for using all four. To me, the ones with one panel on each side look skimpy.

Use all four but are you sure on the color? Right now I don't think it looks very flattering.

yes, the curtains are white and that is the color that I want. The room is not painted. What is shown on the walls is just primer.. The white will look pretty once painted and furniture moved back in . 😊

I think these curtains look too short. Did they come in a longer length? If not, you can release the existing hem or change how you hang the curtains. You are currently using the back tab built into the casing. Hanging the curtain from rings would add some length and allow you to “dress” the curtain. This means you can arrange the fabric and it will stay in place. I included a video to describe what I mean. In addition, I would use 2 panels on each side.

Yes ratherbesewing!! You on every question I was going over in my mind last night!! I also realized I think the rod is too low and I am going ro raise it a bit. Do i also need to extend the rod width wise? I was reading something that said rods should extend 10 inches beyond the frame of the window/ door?? Is that correct or did I misunderstand?

The panels are 84 length, with 3 inch hem. That is an excellent idea about lowering the hem! So simple and I never thought of that!! I was thinking the opposite; I was thinking of going back to the store and seeing if they come in 96. However, even with raising the rod, the 96 will be too long, So I would have to have them hemmed.

Thats a great idea about the rings too. I never thought of that either This is what I love about houzz… so many helpful people with smart ideas to suggest and share.

here is a pic of the bare rod…. does it need be extended width wise in addition to being raised up a bit?

I don’t know about the 10” past window frame rule but yes, I would extend the rods a bit especially as you plan to use 2 panels on each side for the added fullness. I think the placement depends more on width of your doors. Standard width is 60 - 72” & you have 216” with 4 panels. You’d want to be able to pull drapes closed over windows & retain some fullness rather than have them stretched flat to cover. The slider door handle & light switches on the right side also should be considered - accessibility when reaching under the drapes for them. If you have the slider open, seems like you’d want to be able to pull the drape on that side all the way off the window. Typically for a slider, the drapes stack off to the non sliding panel leaving the slider panel fully accessible. But with a rod support in middle, the right drape side cannot be pulled over to left. Also think they’d look nice with rod up to base of crown. About hem & releasing some to make longer - I think you won’t want too narrow of a hem as the weight of fabric in hem helps drape hang better. Not sure if that’s the case with this sheer fabric though. Depending on how much or if you raise rod, it might be better to have longer drape & adjust hem shorter instead of making this one longer.

ETA: if you decide to make shorter drape longer, check that this won’t leave original hem marks and folds that you cannot ’erase’ by ironing.

Thanks KW!! all great tips! i thought 10 inches seemed like a lot ; not sure if Inread it wrong or if it was jist incorrect advice. I will extend it, but not the 10 inches then .

The door width is 68 wide ( not including molding around the door/ i wasnt sure if I should be including that measurement

also, the panels always stay open; rarely if ever do we close them. if we go on bacation , we will close them, but other than that, we dont. Its a private, set back large backyard, so there really is never a need for privacy. We also have an elevated screened in porch with a roof outside those sliding doors, so sun is rarely an issue either.

@gtdj519 Yes, I think the width should include the trim around the door. If you’re extending the rod, you might need a new rod or an extension rod to place in middle section of current rod. You sure don’t want the rod to look weak & sagging even with a support in middle. Maybe you can play with rod length before moving brackets - if the rods will extend past where they are now. Would help you decide how far to extend the rod. Having drape panels hanging on both sides of slider gives a more formal look I think & appears this is a dining room so that works. I did note you said you don’t close the panels often so it seems the most consideration is how to be able to access door handle & light switch easily. My bet is in spring & summer you spend lots of time on that lovely porch!
