Utility wall - does it need to be covered up?

Dear Houzz, just did a whole house renovation, and here's the tankless water heater, radiant heating control and stuff. My GC offers no solution to cover them up - and during the construction all of these parts have gotten really dusty / painted dripped / messy. What would you do if this was your brand new renovation construction? Thank you.

Put a door on it. Just find out if you need air circulation around any of those components and if you need any vents cut in the doors. Also, make sure the doors swing in such a way that a worker with a big tool belt can access everything in there witout baning into the doors.

I think it is a design question in that this could look like plants stuck in to hide the utilities or something more appealing. You do need to be concerned about digging as was pointed out. Most states have an 800 number and free utility marking service for public safety. It is the law that you MUST contact the service before you dig in many states. (in MA it is 1-800-dig-safe) A picture could get a lot of interesting ideas going on a rather basic but common problem.

Covering up insulation in basement utility room

I don't even know why the contractor put in the insulation. I would treat the utility room as conditioned space and insulate the outside wall, though not with fiberglass. Unless both the heater and furnace are completely sealed units with air supply and exhaust outside the home, there are mandatory provisions for ventilation. I'd check the manufacturer's booklets for specs. Exposed fibreglass is not a health hazard, but if the fg is disturbed it will irritate most people.

In your climate, I'd guess that those are possibly pelargoniums rather than hardy geraniums/cranesbill. In areas where they are fully winter hardy, they will grow into a large, shrub-like mass. But rather than a shrub or perennial, I'd pick a vine to climb the power pole...perhaps a clematis. There are many different cultivars and hybrids with a range of bloom times and colors - I'm sure you can find something that suits your tastes :-)) Note: it is important to remember that many plants that are grown as "annuals" in the US are really perennials in other areas of the world with mild winters. Like the dahlias (no need to dig), pelargoniums and lavatera....even some zinnias.

Unfortunately, utility workers need access to both meters and telephone poles. So, I would recommend planting to block visibility, but leave space for accessibility.

Like Kudzu9, I would put a double louvered bifold doors, so that the equipment can breathe and access to the equipment is easy.

Where is this in the house ? This needs to be at least closed somehow but yes to louvered doors to be on the safe side

I'm with the other posters. A set of louvered, bi-fold doors should hide the water heater, wiring, etc. Would not recommend using solid doors as the space should be vented to the rest of the house. Good luck!

The opening is taller than normal which would probably require special order doors.

Then there is the exposed duct showing through the other opening. The photo is not showing the entire story.

Stand back and get another photo that shows what is going on with the opening on the right. And measure the actual openings and post the dimensions.

We have bi-fold doors and they work well. Had to modify to fit though. Other ideas:
