How to install a flat screen tv without showing the wire clutter
Comments (27)Hi aduncan Thank you checking with me! I had a deadline for yesterday and didn't cehck the boards. I haven't signed up for notifciations too. I happened to check the boards and saw this in the first few pages. The information which you guys gave me was very useful. The installer also suggested the same thing and a IR repeater/finder so that we could use a remote in front of the TV while the setup will be hidden on the other side of the TV in the office room. We don't have a closet close by and he gave this suggestion which I liked. He suggested to add ethernet jacks in a couple of places in the house and gave me suggestions for a speaker bar to be placed on top of the TV. He said that it will be thin so I don't have to worry about the looks. He suggested using a sling box to view the video content from the DVR. But that could be used for viewing the content only on a computer not on a tv. I could go to the route of satellite connection with multiple DVRs for that. All in all, it was a great meeting. He hasn't given me the quotes yet though! I can decide what I want then....See MoreThoughts re this bid for installation of Plasma TV & Surround?
Comments (0)I've just received a bid for installation of a 50" plasma TV (wall mount) and a surround sound system. If you have any insight, please let me know your thoughts on whether this sounds reasonable or too much. Labor: $2050 for installation, setup, configuration and calibration of the following: -50" wall mount plasma -3 in wall speakers (in lath and plaster) -2 in ceiling speakers (in lath and plaster) -1 stand alone subwoofer -install electric and cable outlets -connect A/V receiver -connect DVD player I have no idea how long this should take him and how much is a fair wage per hour in central northern California. Your thoughts? Also, I've assessed all the pricing on the components and am comfortable with the prices. However, he wants to charge $1,350 for "video cabling, speaker cables, digital interconnects, fittings, and wallplates." While I realize higher end cables, etc., cost more, does this price sound way out of line for connecting a simple 5.1 surround system a DVD player, cable and the TV? Thanks in advance!...See MoreInstall flat-screen TV for resale?
Comments (13)Flat-screen TV wouldn't be a draw for me. You're looking at buying something that costs $100Ks, including a $1000 TV isn't going to sway me. It sounds like your mother's place has enough pros to sell itself. The big con to me (as a parent) would be the quality of the school system. Hobokenkitchen, I would take a serious look at school systems to explain the cost difference. If Hopewell has a good system and Ewing does not, chances are it won't be affected. Here in the DC area, we have two counties: one with a top school system in the country adjacent to one that is NOT top school system in the metro area. Houses in the county with the top schools are much more expensive. But families who move in the county with not-so-good school often find themselves sending the children to private schools. Usually, it is more cost effective to buy in the more expensive county and send your children to public schools than to buy a less expensive house and pay for private schools....See MoreMy Buddy wants the TV installed over the fireplace
Comments (3)It's EASY: You need a "wireless HDMI " setup. (search Amazon, Google Shopping, and your local TV store for components) You will need a transmitter at the media player and a reciever at the screen, and power outlets for screen and reciever at the fireplace.
