Install an electric water heater to run with domestic coil?

Jim H

Hi. Currently heating home and water with a 1992 installed Burnham oil fired boiler. Boiler has a lifetime warranty for original owner, not me, so must be pretty reliable. Recently had a technician in to clean the boiler and he suggested installing a regular, not hybrid, electric 50 gallon water heater in part due to heating oil prices at about $4.00/gallon and I believe to take some stress off the current aging boiler. At an estimate of around $1,800 (+ I’m sure) does this make sense? Or am i better off using the money for repairs and eventual replacement of the aging system? Current system seems to be operating fine in my opinion but I did notice an external valve repair of some sort recently resulted in a broken piece so it is showing signs of age. Thanks in advance.
