RHM, I will admit that I am fussier than most about my whites. You say you want to brighten up the walls, so my first question would be "what color are your walls now?" Your trim is Alabaster - a light white that is slightly dirty with a little gray green cast, Your cabinets are somewhere between Alabaster and Dover White. If you measure the light, chroma and hue of Dover White vs Alabaster the biggest difference is the Chroma - how gray is it vs how colorful is it. Dover White is less gray so the so the color looks like it is a bit darker and does not have that slight green cast. The first number is light - So Simply white is the lightest color The second number is the chroma - the lower the chroma the more gray , the higher the chroma the more color. The third number is the hue 90 is yellow, 182 is green - this comparison gets tricky because yellow gets kind of olivish green as it goes to gray and when the chroma is really low, like in alabaster I can see that hint of green. Dover White CIE-L*Ch(ab) = 93.765 8.230 99.280° Alabaster CIE-L*Ch(ab) = 93.002 5.636 99.953° Simply White CIE-L*Ch(ab) = 95.648 4.657 106.615° Personally, the first two colors I would test are Dover White and Neutral Ground. I think Neutral Ground is a bit too dark, but I like a little contrast between the wall color and trim color, so I may do 3/4 Dover white and 1/4 Neutral Ground. How I test and blend colors to get exactly what I want is really simple. I own a box of oral medicine syringes - you can buy them from Amazon. When I find two colors that I like, but really want the color to be something in between I mix several variations of the two colors and paint them on 8 1/2 x 11 240lb water color paper. 1 cc of color A + 3 cc of color B 1 cc of color A + 2 cc of color B 2 cc of color A + 2 cc of color B 2 cc of color A + 1 cc of color B 3 cc of color A + 1 cc of color B I mark each sheet with the "recipe" and then test the colors against the colors I already have in my space.

My whole house is sw origami white with sw untinted white as the trim. What color temperature are the lights in your hall? My lights are all 3000k and none of my walls look green.

Hi! We just finished our custom home build about 6 months ago. I agonized over which whites for well over a year (because the house was still being built so I didn’t have rooms to sample them in, and I initially thought we’d be going with Benjamin Moore paints and had my colors picked, and then I discovered his painter uses Sherwin Williams and then I had to do it all over again, LOL!) I ended up choosing SW Alabaster as a whole house interior color, and I looked very hard at both pure white and extra white as trim colors, but in light situations with north facing low light (our house is on the north side of a hill and our best views look north, so very heavy with northern light in our home) Anyways, in that kind of lighting I felt that both pure white and extra white were too cool looking with the alabaster. I also had very bright, clean white kitchen cabinets because we went with IKEA Axstad white cabinets chosen early on in the process, and I felt the need to bridge the look of my white cabinets with alabaster walls. Can you tell the amount of agony?? LOL! Anyhooooooo.... what I decided to do was go for SW alabaster on the walls and the ceilings, and SW high reflective white on our trim because it looked very neutral against the alabaster and also looked the same as my kitchen cabinets. I’m super happy with the same wall color on the ceilings as the walls. The high reflective white stands out subltly with zero clashing and keeps my cabinets from standing out in the wrong way. (My floors are a natural bamboo in a bossy light brownish yellow, and most of my accent colors are in the watery blues and greens family. We live on the coast in the Pacific Northwest, so a LOT of green coming in through every window.) Here’s a photo I took of my dog, and one I took of my nephew’s photography above my mantle. Please don’t judge everything in the photo’s we are not finished with everything. We did most of our own interior work, and we haven’t done everything yet like cover the beams and stuff, finish touch up paint (our electrician made a huge mess, but I digress...) or even buy most of the furniture we intend to get. But you get the idea of the color on the walls and ceiling and the trim color. Hope that helps!

Is the the interior or exterior?// I see only an interior wall. IMO black trim is real staement and needs real thought if this is inside. Take pics from further back so we can see the house if this is anexterior question. DO NOT start another post just use comments for everything.
