I think it works, especially if you like it!

Just painting in a color that you love is an often-forgotten option, also.

Is there a reason that the opening on the left side of the cooktop (I can't tell what it is for - a switch?) is so much closer than the outlet on the right? That would bug me, although lack of symmetry in cabinet placement never does LOL. Just make sure that the placement is optimal for whatever use it is (ie doesn't require reaching too close to hot pots) before tile goes up.

What pulls did you use? I have the same walnut cabs and my pulls are sort of falling apart at this point.

The tile you chose it's interesting but you might have problem with cleaning if it's not smooth especially behind a cooktop.

@raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio, this project had so many changes already. The left side opening for the outlet will go away and the right side outlet will be put together with the switch. They are from the prior plan. I love symmetry a lot too, but sometimes you just can't have it perfect :-).

JSk, that's why I put it next to the cooktop :-), to test how easy or not it would be to clean it. Overall, the surface is pretty smooth and the texture is subtle, so hopefully cleaning is not too much trouble.

@ Lena Kv - It's kind of hard to tell from pictures, but it looks like there is some variation in the backsplash tile (or at least the way it reflects the light), which I thought would compliment the subtle veining in your countertop. I think I know what your countertop is, and it's not pure white, is it? What's the name of it?

If this were my gorgeous kitchen, I would love this braided picket design by fireclay tile.

Sorry it was a little tough to mock it up. I had to add turquoise accents to my kitchen because I love that color with walnut and white. 😉

This shows it in a color, but notice how the design is layed out where it goes more straight up and down verses angling slightly up and to the right like the in the white example? There are several patterns you can do with it.

I am also hesitant with the one you picked out for the cleaning aspect. Plus, I never like how you can see the outline of the large size rectangles. Sometimes they need to be cut and then you have what looks like different odd sizes and grout lines. Even if they are butted tightly together, it still would bother me. If it all blended, I would like it better.

@Marian Hyslop, the countertop is Viatera Etude quartz and it's warm white. Tile manufacturer calls their color creamy white. I agree that there is a variation in color and also they look different in different light. Keeping this one an option for now.

rebunky, thank you you for your comments and ideas! I was looking at smaller size tiles (all kinds of hexagons, island stone palms tile), but haven't tried the ones you are suggesting. I'll get some samples. Agree about grout line on big size tiles, I like the line to as thin as possible. The one I have is not rectified which likely means thicker grout line.

An all-white and wood can be dull. You can select a backsplash in a color you like, even white, but don’t go too bright or dark. I would select some colorful towels, potholders, curtains, and area rugs for where you stand at the sink or when working on the island….two or three sets of washable items…in different colors. Add add some glassed, framed art if you have some open wall space.

I like all white tile with walnut cabs. Allows them to stand out.
