The color of Dee-lish?

I have one spot for a deep pink rose, and I’d like to consider Dee-lish. I have a vivid recollection of its outstanding fragrance, but only the vaguest memory of its color. I usually see it described as deep pink, but some photos look much more coral. On the spectrum of deep pinks, is it closer to, say, Grande Dame (more pink) or to Boscobel (more coral pink)?

Here are some pics of mine. She is a bright deep pink but her center can sometimes be a different hue; warmer, smokier

Great photos, Oursteelers! It does look like it’s a warmer pink, and the lighter center is very pretty.

Sounds like it did need more water. But I would not freak out about the small blooms so early in this plants' life. So many things about blooms often get better as a plant matures. I'd aim to grow a healthy plant with good roots, and later worry about blooms. Blooms can improve in color, petal count, size, form, and fragrance as a plant matures. I think Dee Lish has excellent ratings on helpmefind in most categories. I bought a bare root one this spring . I sniffed a bloom on a sorry looking Dee Lish plant at Walmart the other day... out of this world fragrance. But the plants had been left outside in our Easter freeze and were damaged badly. I don't know if you got that same freeze. If you did, you'd probably see some crispy leaves as well as wilting stems.

Hi Caroline, I think I live quite near you. I look forward to reading your posts and experiences with David Austin roses since we are pretty much in the same zone. Like you, I hope I live long enough to see all my Austins grow and thrive since I am a latecomer with my addiction for them. I have a large rose garden that finally, just this year has begun to reward us for all our very hard work. I had a thriving crop of thistle that has taken us 12 years to overcome but we won the battle. We have very heavy clay soils and have been hauling trailer loads of horse manure compost in every few weeks to help. We see wonderful results. Maybe we can meet in person one day and share our love of roses.

Had both Grand Dame and Dee-Lish. Still have Dee-Lish, actually four (4), Dee-Lish bushes, got rid of Grand Dame because of mine being chronically plagued with weak necks, which is its natural trait. In a rainy climate like mine, weak, nodding necks are a serious liability. Soggy blooms quickly rot. A bush that was relatively beautiful yesterday, looks horrible after a downpour, and it takes several days for new blooms to pop, only to be rained upon in turn....and all season long. Your Grand Dame is magnificent. Whatever you are doing, keep it up. Dee-Lish has a very upright growth habit, narrow and tall for me. Necks are pretty strong. The bloom color is pink/coral, very nice. A nice, strong, but odd scent is how I describe its fragrance, almost like an infrequently encountered tropical flowers scent. If you like Grand Dame, and I cannot see why you wouldn't, looking at your spectacular bush, give Pretty Lady Rose a try. PLR is Grand Dames' baby girl! Pretty Lady Rose holds blooms upright, and is quite fragrant and prolific of bloom. The scent is like Grand Game's to me. Moses

I would characterize it as a warmer pink. It does have a bit of coral indeed but I would also say "dusty rose." It is not a garish color, to my eyes it leans towards a deeper pastel, but then again I am always attracted to very saturated, deep but also bright colors (think Indian colors), so Dee-lish appears subdued to me. Very beautiful.

I don't have Boscobel or Grande Dame. Here's mine.

I lovr my Deelish and have lots of picsnof it. The rose on the left is Roseraie de Chatelet and it is a pink similar to my Olivia Rose Austin. you can see that Delish is much warmer and deeper, but not brash.

in thus picture you csn also see the range if pinks with Earth Song back and to the right. This also shows how Deelish’s color ages. The topmost bloom is sn older Deelish and the smokiness others mentioned adds a lavender cast as the blooms age… especially in cooler weather.

I agree, it's a warm pink but without the orange coral highlights that Boscobel can have. I love the colors of both roses. My Dee-lish is young and I don't have many photos of it. Mine a is own root and it's probably better grafted.

Thank you for all of these beautiful photos and observations. This gives me a much better idea of the color. I do think she’s a little too warm for the bed I have in mind, which includes cooler pinks. However, she’s a gorgeous color (and fragrance!), and I am determined to find another spot for her in my garden!
