advice for gas fireplace design, existing flue off-center

christasista
last year

We are going to demolish this tile corner area and build out for gas fireplace with built-in cabinets on sides and exposed flue. We would like to use existing flue opening but it is off centered- 22 inches from wall on right and 28 inches from the wall with the diamond window. See attached (not to scale) diagrams. Here are our options:

1- move flue opening which requires roofing repairs, ceiling retextured, etc- pros: centered fireplace and cleaner design. cons: cost, flue will be closer to diamond window

2- keep flue off centered which creates off centered fireplace (see diagram with dimensions). It seems we could get creative with tile and stone in a way that makes this work but its also just barely off which makes me think it may just look bad. Pro- cost, flue farther from window

3- we have ruled out option of crook in flue, dont want that

Please see attached pictures- would love advice especially design ideas (and pictures) for off centered fireplace as we would really prefer not to move the flue. The last picture from houzz is the closest example I could find to our idea
