Question re: washer dryer install in cabinet
Comments (3)I'm also having my w/d moved from side by side to a closet (that is yet to be built). I will have my second meeting soon with my contractor and the w/d are high on my list of getting straight. Thanks to gardenweb - can't remember which forum - probably laundry), I plan to ask for a "panel" so that the water source can be reached and examined without pulling out both machines. My contractor has already mentioned that we need to make sure there is enough room in the closet for the dryer vent (to do its thing). He looked at my set up now in the kitchen where the vent requires about 5 or six inches. This is added to the depth of the closet which will of course include the physical depth of the machine.....See MoreWasher/Dryers under kitchen counters
Comments (11)I don't think so. DW uses much hotter water than washer. Even when I used my WD combo( the ventless one), there was no moisture to be felt around. The unit felt warm (enough to dry towel over it) on drying cycle but my dishwasher puts out more heat- it is old piece of wonder, fixed manytimes. Besides look at the build in ovens, even thou they vent up front, I'm sure there must be some heat in between cabinets. I wouldn't worry as long there is no water drip when draining. In europe we use appliances build in the kitchen for years....See MoreLayout help - please help me get this right
Comments (8)lavender_lass - marble would be more of a possibility with the island/table combo. While I do love marble, I'm not sure that I would be happy with it while it developed its patina (and I can be a messy cook). DH is strongly against marble counters in the kitchen - partly because he thinks we've got enough already (fireplace surround and raised hearth, plus floor and counter in bathroom), partly because he doesn't think he'd be happy patina-wise, and partly because he'd prefer soapstone for the counter. Does soapstone come close to marble as a rolling surface for baking? But the combination of marble and then wood on the long island would be striking... I did some searching and found more discussions about extending islands and attaching them to a table and found info on houzz and here. One thing that came up was that with seating on only two sides, you lose some of the face-to-face contact that you have with people around a table. We do eat dinner in the kitchen about five nights a week, and I think I might miss having us around a table. The other concern I have, for my old house, is that the big island is quite popular right now while we're really after a fairly traditional look. Still intrigued a bit, though, so I'll mull some more. Any thoughts on the viability of the fridge location in the initial layout? Will I regret having to move around the end of the peninsula to get into the fridge?...See MoreHow to tastefully conceal a dryer vent
Comments (7)Bass In the photo that I posted of the Red, Blue and Lilac colored boxes are known a "open" face boxes. With one you could pass the vent inside the space between the top and bottom shelf. Example in the photo marked "A". Then the shelf could be faced. Like the others in the sample photo below to hide the vent. Note these are all rustic floating boxes. The one has ropes to make it appear as if it is hanging. Facing a box shelf is only limited by your imagination. Anything from a piece of plain 1/4" painted or stained plywood to artwork, decorative pieces what ever you wish could be applied to the fronts. Box shelves can be bought from any different places. Or hand crafted to fit the exact opening between the counter and the wall and even with the edge of the wall. Which ever way you choose to go. Just remember to allow the box in which the vent passes through to have a removable front for servicing if needed. More samples of faced box shelves....See Morekandrewspa
