I never thought about it not being a GFI....the house is not quite 3 year old so surprised it passed code!! But seriously, I have always had a lamp in the bathroom it has never been an issue....there is plenty of space to turn on/off the water & the towels are over the toliet so no dripping water over the socket. But when I have an electrician out again, I will have it changed out. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong with trying to darken my cabinets?? Scuff/apply stain/ wait/ wipe off? Maybe I didn't scuff enough? Smiles:)

Wallpaper math: Your room is 27.5' by 19.5', so the perimeter of the room is 94' or 1128". The wallpaper is 54" wide, so you need 1128/54 drops, rounded up to the next integer, which is 21 drops. The wall area looks to me like 4', so with a pattern repeat of 18", you need 54" for each drop (if the wall area is no more than 3', you would need only 36" for each drop). It's possible that you could save some wallpaper from the door and window areas, but it's not likely, so I'm figuring that the door and window areas will be wasted material. So, 21 drops x 54" = 1134" of wallpaper. The wallpaper has 5 yards per roll, so I'm assuming that it comes in double rolls, which means that each double roll is 360" long. Dividing 1134 by 360 give 3.15 double rolls, which rounds up to 4 double rolls. If the wallpaper comes in single rolls, you'll need 7 single rolls. I think this is correct. 8-)

dgmarie--I sure am tempted at times to hire out for some of these difficult projects, but I even doubt there'd be anyone available for this in this little town--it's full of small town charm but has its limitations! Most of these sorts of jobs have to be done by people brought in from Santa Fe, which kicks up the cost quite a bit. We've got to get our chimney repaired by a historic mason ($$$$$$), so I'll have to make up for it by struggling with the more mindless but messy jobs like this. tishtoshnm--It sounds like your husband has an interesting profession! We drove through/by Socorro last month on our way to Tucson, and every time we go by there I see all the old, historic buildings from the interstate and it makes me want to take a trip down there to check out the sights. Now that I know there will be a house museum I'm definitely going to make a point of going. When I get this ceiling job done I'll post the pictures of all the great, old Victorian wallpapers I found on our walls. That's another reason I'm doing this myself rather than having someone else do it; if you're into historic preservation as we are, there really is no better way to get to know the evolution of your home than by doing this kind of work yourself. We found out more about changes to our house over the decades merely by removing wallpaper than any other way so far! pbrisjar--yes, I'm trying to keep the finished product in mind! I struggled with the floors and it made a world of difference, and so will this. Back to work now......

I completely forgot that we are covering the utility door so that it somewhat disappears. We've lived in this house for 28 years and that door has never stopped being an eyesore to me. The door allows front access to our furnace and air conditioner so the opening needs to be as large as it is. Access from the pantry is not possible because it has built-in shelving and isn't terribly deep. It was originally designed to be a guest coat closet (it faces our front door). FYI: the new 15 light pantry door will have the handle on the kitchen side instead of the living room side for easier access. We are toying with the idea of putting piano hinges on the utility door for a lower profile look. What I'd really wanted to use there was a stereo cabinet type door that swings open and then can be pushed back into the closet but there isn't enough clearance on the side of the furnace to accommodate the thickness of the door. The grasscloth itself is pretty simple (i.e., not a lot of woods or thick fibers) but the paper it's on is fairly thick. Fraying and bending was certainly a consideration so I decided not to bend it around any corners. Even still, there is the problem of fraying, and to be honest, I'm not sure I really know what to do there. They do sell clear strips that protect corners and keep wallpaper from lifting due to people brushing up against it but I never liked the looks of that. I like nice clean lines and don't really want to put anything on the corners if I can help it. Any idea what someone might charge to hang this little bit of wallpaper? Keep in mind, I live in (everything is greatly overpriced) Southern California. :-) Jodi-
