Help Please! Mid-Master Bath Remodel Dilemmas!
Comments (5)Thanks everyone for your comments so far. Running it vertically is definitely an option and something I hadn't thought of so thank you! My only worry about running everything up the posts all the way now is that it will add significantly to my costs which have already grown bigger than I was planning so I was kind of hoping that I could find a way to make it look ok without having to go all out which is why I was considering all the options. Jerzee girl, were you talking about the white trim in that link or the stone on the underside? Snookums, yes, I believe they did everything correctly and I've been here throughout the whole process and watched each step -- from cement board and mud pan and building the curb all the way to the entire shower coated in redguard... They are very careful and have a good reputation in the area. Anyway, thanks all and I hope more people will chime in....See MoreHelp with bathroom remodel - add shower to tub
Comments (5)Here's the post I put on the bathroom forum (including the picture): Hi All, We have a grand old 1860s Italianate house with an absolutely atrocious master bath. We are planning a modest remodel hoping to get the most bang for the buck. One issue (of many) that we are facing is that while the tub is not a clawfoot, it was never used for a shower. We'd like to keep the tub but add a shower somehow. We realize that this also means tiling the walls around the tub and doing something at the far end of the tub to make sure that the water doesn't spray into the rest of the room (since the tub is only enclosed on 2 sides). I'd love to hear ideas and see pictures of similar remodels! Here's a pic (don't laugh...we are not responsible for any of the decorating choices)....See MorePlease help with advice on Bathroom remodel...
Comments (11)Thank you cpartist. But my husband had an accident a few years ago with a fold down shower bench seat at his work gym.. I guess moisture had gotten behind the wall it was mounted to, and the whole bench fell off the tiled wall, taking a 3-4 foot section of tile with it, and collapsed on his back! He's had back trouble since then. (can you believe the BIG electronics company--think, the biggest one in the world!!-- he worked at, claimed no responsibility!!! Although they had it immediately torn down!) anyways, due to that bad experience, he wants nothing to do with fold down bench seats. Understandable. But yes, I think you're right about the tile up on the high ceiling. Easier to clean. Thanks....See MorePlease help rein in bathroom remodel budget!
Comments (6)just to say your drawing is pretty good:) actually perfect for somebody like me:) if the tile and pattern are important-i'd try to save on the vanity by looking into second hand. sometimes folks sell very decent or even new stuff because they remodel for example. otherwise i think the prices you posted are very reasonable pattern is more laborious and will probably require more cuts=ordering more tile i know new vanities cost a lot..anything new wood does. so i'd shop around for that maybe, but splurge on the tile that's important to you. tiles are harder to get second hand:) lol but you can score a very nice vanity, without paying full price in Costco. of course one needs to get lucky. so decide whether you have patience for hunting like that. i got two of three vanities i needed on Craigslist..one is pretty straightforward just a big improvement from the old one, and cost me around 250 or so with nice clean countertop(looks like quartz), integrated sink and faucet. it's not 60 inch that's true..it's 37 inches. it was brand new too. another one was around the same in terms of money, it's smaller, but it's handmade and unique and i'd never be able to get something like this in the chain store. so i'm happy i took my time hunting. but i realize this Craigslist thing is not everybody's preference, for various reasons....See MoreSherry Vaughn
