Thanks for sharing your journey.

My maternal grandfather had a lovely rose garden . He was so proud of his roses. I wish that I had paid more attention but I was more interested in sewing than growing.

I killed a lot of roses along the way but am finally feeling like my grandfather would be pleased with my rose garden.

I am so glad you've a name and provenance for this rose. One of my roses up here is Maggie from Verrett St in Algiers Point. Blooms are identical to the one sold by Antique Rose Emporium, but the leaf matte-i-ness is a bit different. If I can get cuttings started this summer, I'd like you to have one, if you've room. Ann

LOL" You just go back to the original post and respond in the "Comments" section.....exactly as I am doing here! And to get techie on you, a forum is not the same as a blog. A blog is your very own website where you write articles/musings and readers can respond. Right now you are a newbie forum participant :-) For specifics on your spider lily care, you can Google 'hymenocallis care' and various websites will appear that will provide guidance. Or with luck, someone who actually grows these as containerized plants will chime in. I have no personal experience with them myself.

Hello, 'fungus gnats' are usually a sign or a poor draining mix, a heavy mix, and decomposed one holding too much moisture or over watering.... Is there any way you can help that mix to dry out better? I would think about using a mix like the 5.1.1 come the summer time..You won't have any gnats then..

I posted a photo of a doily that I had framed for my Mother. I have lots of my Grandmother's doilies, a bedspread and a table cloth. And I'd like to do something with them. Brandon, I can't imagine why anyone who has seen your incredibly gorgeous garden on You.tube would ever pose that question. For me, who loves the antique varieties best, I would say not only their charm and beauty but also their mystique and history, which in some cases for the Chinese roses may go back a thousand years. I'm privileged to have in my garden roses that have graced gardens and been loved for hundreds of years, and to me that's an immense privilege and pleasure. At the same time there are many modern roses that are exquisite and I value them too.

I don't have a 1912 cottage with a garden and antique roses. I have antique roses and a period correct house and garden to serve the roses. :-) Carol

A few of my grandmother's roses--photos circa 1950s. Like others on the forum, my family members planted roses long before I was born, and my appreciation for roses grew in their gardens.
