Garage entry door

We are in the beginning stages of a kitchen remodel. Our dilemma is moving the garage entry door from the kitchen to the dining area. We are hoping to gain more cabinet space in the kitchen by moving the door. I am very torn if moving the door into the dining area will be a bad idea. Our kitchen is in the front of the house. As recommended by our GC, we moved the table and taped approximately where the door would be. Any suggestions are appreciated Thank you!

It seems worth moving for a great kitchen layout. Though I am not usually a fan of an open kitchen, jave you thought about removing the wall between your kitchen and dining area? It would help make more sense of the door issue.

If this was the eat-in part of an eat-in kitchen I wouldn't see anything wrong with it, but this looks like your dining room, which is very nice by the way. So I can't vote for having the door there. If you post a drawing on graph paper of your kitchen people will offer many suggestions for increasing the function of your space. Post some more pictures taken from additional angles as well. For one thing, it looks like you have a table on the end of the kitchen away from the garage. Do you need this table since the dining room is so close?

HMI and Provia make excellent steel doors and Therma Tru is a good door and the lowest quality door I would recommend. The flush doors from your garage to the house will need to be fire rated with a metal frame by code and these companies will have them available as well. I suggest buying from either a either a window and door dealer or a real lumberyard NOT a box store (HD, Lowes, etc).

I think to start with I'd place TV on the left and paint the door and frame to match the wall color. You may have bigger fish to fry once you move in (HVAC, plumbing, etc.) All kinds of issues can arise once you're in the home to eat into any leftover cash you have. Once you live with it for a while, you may find it isn't the issue you thought it would be. There may be more urgent items that need your attention and cash. This is our mid room entry and our garage which had restrictions like yours. Not same height at all. That said all our interior doors are flat panel so similar. Our front door is the odd one out in design.

Not in my head for sure. Post a to scale drwaing of the kitchen on graph paper . Show every window, doorways and where the doorways lead. Also how the garage is in relation to the house like how it sits next to the house. Make ue every measurement is clearly marked , the drawing is in jpeg format and add that in a comment on the post . Do not ever start another post on this subject .If plumbing and gas lines cnnot be moved please show those .From the pics you posted you have ahuge empty space behind the stools so I really need that floor plan

Thank you Kendra. This is a load bearing wall and a beam has already been placed above the island from a previous renovation and woukd like that wall for additional cabinets

The space is all very open plan, so I don't see that it would be a problem.

What is the space behind the bar stools?

If placing a door in the DR, I would move the console to the back wall and move the chandelier/table to the left and away from the back wall.

create phase two and separate the garage entry with a buffer zone. you have the abundant space on dining room side so i could move the door but I would want something done in addition. these show a separation / zone between dining and the in/out to garage. you have space so you can figure it out when you are ready. you would be moving or removing the ceiling fixture as the center will be different.

Besides the issue of storage/ getting a main traffic pattern out of the center of the kitchen is a long term " better solution " You have to work w your square footage and make the pathways and zones within your space look good and function.....but you can.....

I wouldn't. It's weird to have an entry into a dining room, exception being entry from a patio area. Definitely not the garage. You'd be better off getting a sideboard for the dining room for storage of non-everyday items -- that would look like it belongs.

I agree with mxk. while everyone likes extra storage, your kitchen seems to have a nice amount of storage.

Maybe when you post the plan, something else can make more sense..
