kjmama, I've just spent the last couple of days putting the finishing touches on my renovated bathroom (regular little bathroom, but it looks much prettier now. I'll post pictures soon). Anyway, I wanted to say that I think it's really important to work out a clear "vision" for your bathroom before you start shopping. You need to decide on a style (vintage cottagey? organic spa? glamourous hollywood? whatever you like...) And decide on a color scheme -- I'd suggest two main colors and an accent color. I assume since you painted the walls pink, that you made that choice with a certain look in mind. And pink will be one of your main colors. Are you looking for something feminine and pretty? If so, I would suggest painting the vanity a creamy white and adding sparkly knobs. The curvy mirror would work great with that look, as would the armoire. You could do a lot with vintagey accessories (like crystal perfume bottles). And I'd suggest picking a piece of art that really captures the feeling you are going for. What about that Degas painting of a woman drying herself after a bath? The key is to decide on your look and then really commit to it. Good luck.

cat_ky, the impetus for the repaint was that there are major structural issues in the house that encourage mold and discoloration to white paint on the ceiling, especially since there's no ventilation other than the window and it's a very small room with a tub. In the long run those need to be addressed, but both my partner and I are in the arts (not visual art for me, if you can tell) and finishing big projects and we can't do that right now. I was hoping a darker ceiling color would be less susceptible to looking cruddy quickly.

Because it seemed important to know how bad the situation is, I removed the tiles and mudboard in the problem area. Underneath is just the sheathing. You can see that most of the wood is still in tact, but it's definitely rotted in the corner by the tub. That spot is still very wet, smells earthy, and I can dig into it with my finger. In a 4" x 4" area, I could make a little 1/2 inch hole easily. Now I'm wondering if the best solution might be to: 1) wait for wood sheathing to dry; 2) put down some kind of underlayer or mortar, and then 3) just put on some of that Flex Seal - as a temporary solution. Or, should I put down some kind of PVC board, or something like that over the sheathing - and then put mortar on that - just in case there's reason to worry about the sheathing in that corner giving in. and the PVC board would keep us from falling through the ceiling (until we do the full renovation)! I would choose a tile paint that would cover ONLY the red. Find a colour that would work for the bathroom (with floor pattern as-is) and then go ahead and paint JUST the red. But that means you would HAVE to change out the light/plug-in facing to the same colour (or match the wall tile colour). Personally (because I am cheap and lazy) I would look at large throw rugs (no backing...just natural fibres...you have in-floor heat) to cover up most of the floor. By leaving a bit of the red peeping out means you can leave the switch plates alone. If you are moving in 4 years, you can reassess in 3 years. Remember: if you are moving in a short amount of time, you are not the 'owner' you are designing for. You are trying to design for someone else. Someone you do NOT know. That's tough enough on it's own.
