I would say that it depends on where the condo is and the demographics of buyers in your area. If you are in a densely populated urban setting and if most residents are renters, young couples, or retirees that eat out a lot, the speed oven may be OK.

Please yourself. You say you might sell in ten years. A new owner will want to remodel to suit themselves. So many styles and appliances change in a decade. Don’t decorate for some unknown buyer. Just think about all the things that have changed in the way we live in the past ten years. There was no way to predict all that. It’s your home-live in it.

the countertop appliance options keep expanding. I think you are fine and the addition of functions w a countertop multi function appliance seems you'll have yourself nicely set up. My friends keep talking about "airfrying" etc etc etc....My countertop microwave broke in 2022 and I was fine/ didnt replace it for a while , then got around to it.......I noted all the countertop selections . if there is a spot where you can: ..install the cabs out a couple xtra inches so to create a spot w a deeper counter to give options . my kitchen is older so right now w standard depth I can feel the pinch sometimes. Deeper counter would be a great help in a lot of kitchens.

I would’t buy a home without an oven, nor would I buy a home that required remodeling to get the basic functionality I want. I don’t think many buyers would… it is one thing to buy a house with style selections you want to change, it is a completely different thing to buy a house without the basic functionality most people are used to.

Personally, I would plan the space such that an oven cabinet exists even if that cabinet has been converted to doors/drawers for my use.

A lot of posters here choose a CSO. A spreed oven is not the more current option. An induction cooktop pairs well with a CSO with no micro. A micro above a range isn't recommended. All drawer base cabinets is very functional. In a small kitchen a 24" sink base with a single bowl 24" sink is my recommendation. That size sink has a 21" interior width. Plenty large enough.

Having lived in (as an owner and renter) many small, urban homes and apartments, yes, you will never sell this apartment without an oven. It's a waste of money to put in high end cabinets without an oven.

This forum would have you believe that most buyers will just price to rip out your kitchen and put in their own... that's not true. That's just a reflection of the 1% of buyers who come on this forum and like renovating. Most buyers do not want to renovate. They especially won't want to renovate a high end kitchen that was just done 5-10 years ago. Also, condo buyers particularly don't want to renovate when they move in, as most may only plan to stay for 5 years until they upgrade to a bigger place when they get married, have kids etc. Versus when people move into a single family home, they may be open to renovating because they'd like to make it their forever house. Also, there's a difference between buying a house with some kitchen problems that you plan to renovate in the next few years, versus buying a house without a basic feature so you'd have to renovate before you even move in.

If you live in Europe, maybe the answer changes. But in North America, no way.

Have you considered installing a wall oven and then adding a speed oven sbkve it? This would give you what YOU prefer to use while also allowing for future-proofing for those whi might not care for speed or CSO ovens. whichever route you take be sure that you are wiring in at 240 voltage as all wall ovens snd most any true speed oven will require this. There are lots of photos/ideas/inspiration sources right here on Houzz for how stacking a speed oven or built-in microwave can work well in a single cabinet.

I talked to my kitchen designer and she said the cabinet could be reworked to fit a wall oven or I could put a range in instead of the cabinet, but the side cabinets have unfinished sides that might show. I've looked some into convection steam ovens and am pondering going with one instead of a speed oven or regular oven. They are pretty expensive and I'd have to do some electrical work, but seems like a better option with the height and functionality.

I have a similar dilemma. I live in Southwestern America in a single family home (but am from Europe). I don't currently need a large oven but we may sell in, say, 5 years. I would like a CSO and my family doesn't want to give up the microwave function. So, I was thinking of just getting a CSO and a speed oven but I also fear that the absence of a standard size oven would be a problem during resale. I understand from the posts above that a speed oven cannot replace a standard oven but do you think the combination of a CSO and a speed oven is a good one, or should one always have at least one standard sized oven (with the future buyers in mind)?

@Meltem KW Curious about others' opinions, but for me, I'm guessing the steam oven would be enough to cover a regular oven's functions but they seem to be shorter. The size of the cavity (width and depth) seems like it covers a regular oven just not the height. Right now, I feel like switching to a convection steam oven would make resale much easier, even without a full-sized oven, but I'm not much of a chef. The one I'm looking at is the same height and look as the speed oven I was getting.

Our Miele Speed oven IS our go-to oven. It heats faster and works better than the oven in our range!
