Primary Kitchen Sink Placement
Comments (6)The plan looks good but without dimensions and knowing more about you and your needs, it's hard to know for sure. How wide are your aisles? NKBA recommends 44" behind seating for people to walk past seated diners but that's without appliances opening in those aisles. You might want wider aisles than that since 2 island seats back up to appliance runs. Do you really need 9 seats at the island? Or would 7 work? If you can eliminate the one across from the fridge and the one between range and clean-up sink, that would be better. For a working kitchen, it's generally better not to have seating in the work zone. And yes, definitely make sure you have generous aisles between table and clean-up counter. Don't skimp here or you won't be able to accommodate people at the bar while people are seated at the table....See MoreWhere should I place a main sink in a double island kitchen?
Comments (3)I would probably pick option 2 if I couldn't put the main sink on the perimeter areas of the kitchen. I would want my prep sink between the fridge and stove. When I do prep I use the sink to rinse everything off. That said I would want the counter space between them to be a fair size. I use my main sink for overflow food prep but mainly for clean up. So I would want my main sink and dishwasher to be situated close to each other and out of the way of my prep area. I would advise you to do a mock up cooking scenario. It other words pretend you are cooking a meal and see where it makes sense to you. This sounds like a many butt kitchen but you want everyone to have enough room and not to cross over one another while in the kitchen. You've hit on many of the important points bottlenecking Etc. A way around not having the room you want on the Gathering Island is to have a cover for your sink so that it becomes another flat surface. There are some quite nice sinks like that nowadays. I believe there are ones where even the tap becomes quite invisible. Or at least low profile. I would cover maybe only half of the surface of the main sink that way you can slip dishes in the sink to hide. Just to note you might have better luck with more answers in the kitchen forum. This is the Home Decorating discussions forum. Although there are a lot of experts here there are even more there interested in kitchens. :)...See MoreShould pennants over island and sink match?
Comments (3)I'm sure you'll get lots of advice and opinions. Personally, if they are pendants, I'd prefer them to match - if they don't, one style might take your eye away from the other. How about going with pendents over island, something else over the sink? Track lighting is popular: This one is similar to a schoolhouse light, but offers directional light like a track light. Or you could go with a more simple schoolhouse light over your sink ... or just use can lights over the sink. Whichever way you go, I'd suggest keeping the glass (color, frosted vs. clear) the same if at all possible....See MoreShould you center sink on large island?
Comments (10)Thank you all for your great input/suggestions. We are planning a remodel and the kitchen only has 1 12’ wall of cabinets with a 10’ island across which is open to the family room. With many of your suggestions I am leaning to offset sink. Perfect!...See Morecpartist
