Wall tile size 13x26 too big for small bathroom?
Comments (7)I like the larger tile in the rectangle shape. I think it will make the tub area if not the whole bathroom look and feel more open & airy. DS1&2's baths have 9x18 tiles in a brick pattern and they look really nice. To add onto treasure's equation above...less grout lines = less potential for mildew/mold = less/easier cleaning....See MoreCan I squeeze a shower into 4'8'' x 5'10" bathroom
Comments (12)Like pal said you could make it a wet room. You could look for pictures of bathrooms on boats for inspiration. When I did college visits with my daughter, one of our hotel rooms had a tiny bathroom. (Kellogg Center at Michigan State, if by any chance you happen to live near there.) I wish I hadn't deleted the pics I took but I'll try to describe... front left corner was the door; back left corner was sink; back right corner was toilet. The shower was in the front right corner with a ceiling mounted shower head. There was a ceiling mounted track for a shower curtain and a drain in that area. When the curtain was open it was not at all in the way and the shower floor space just became part of the room. (There was no curb or step around the shower it was just one continuous floor in the bathroom.) There was a teak mat in front of the sink in case the whole floor got wet. I don't remember but I'm sure the floor had to be slightly sloped toward the drain. I wouldn't want it as my only bathroom but it certainly worked for our short term use and I think would work OK for occasional use. Your layout above would not work with a walled shower because, as mentioned, you wouldn't have room to get to the toilet. But with a ceiling mounted shower head (so it sprays down, not out toward the room) and a ceiling mounted track for a shower curtain that you could push aside, it *might* work. Obviously the floor would need to slope toward a drain under the shower head....See MoreNeed help designing a small bathroom (4'x8')
Comments (18)Sorry I'm so late getting back to you. I think that oddly sized fixtures can be off-putting. Many home buyers are looking for an "ideal" and they can't see past that. If the tub is well made and the bath is located where it's most needed a shorter size tub might not be a problem. If the bath will be used by children then its size is less important, but children grow into teenagers. acm voiced a concern I had about the location of this bath to nearby bedrooms. My mistake in calling it water-resistant drywall. It looks like drywall but it's better referred to as tile backer board. It's most often 1/2 inch thick but I have seen a Hardie brand backer that was only 1/4" thick and came in 3 x 5 ft. sections. HERE is a link to more info on these. There are several types with differing properties. On toilet location, I don't think "obstruction refers to the nearest wall or fixture. I think it refers to something directly in front of the toilet. Looking at your floor plan an angled toilet would not have anything in front of it. There might be room between the toilet and the vanity for a waste basket....See MoreNeed ideas for tiling bathroom with 12 x 24 tiles
Comments (5)Plenty of rugs won't save you. I was giving the lab a bath. He bolted out the bathroom door after the bath and I rushed to close the door because it was drafty. He scrambled the rugs on the way out, I slipped and fell into the door jamb and broke my wrist. Would not use the tiles that are linked on a floor. They have R9 Slip Resistance rating which is the least slip resistant rating....See MoreHU-37459040
