Since this is a "medical" and as such might be a temporary need, and you say you have no desire to run more than one head at a time, the simplest and least invasive would be to replace your existing shower head with a hand held retrofit kit. Yes, you can buy additional brackets so the head can be mounted elsewhere on the wall. And you are correct, the bracket needs to be matched to the head, they are not necessarily universal. A lot of showers I build, I also make a teak bench for them. In addition to an extra bracket or two on the wall, often times I'll add a bracket to the edge of the bench. I'd look for the longest hose you can find. Personally I find the segmented metal hoses lay flatter and loop over themselves less than the plastic hoses. Plastic versus metal head? Plastic is fine in a decent head, but in a $9.00 head the entire thing might be too lightweight and spray water everywhere regardless of what material it is made from. Mongo

enduring - yes we will have an access panel because we will have an air bathtub (at least that is the current plan). shanghaimom - Yes, DH has seen plenty of pictures of nice handheld showerheads, and we actually just purchased one for our masterbath. But he still doesn't like them and this bathroom will have marble walls (master is white subway) and I think he doesn't want anything hanging in front of the marble. As for the hose length. I was looking at Newport Brass last night and you can purchase the hose, handheld and mount type (deck, bar, holder) all separately. The hose length is the same no matter what mounting method - 59" which seems long enough to me....our shower/tub is only 60"x30" so i think we will be fine. So I take it, it can be done and there shouldn't be any issues???

A very common way to run plumbing is to have a 3/4" main line that runs to the bathroom, and then each feeder line (sink, shower, commode, etc.) is a 1/2" line coming off the main line. However, when you install one of the units with multiple sprayers I don't know how its connected to the plumbing. Is a unit with multiple sprays and head plumbed as a single unit, possibly using a direct 3/4" line, and then each spray head is connected to the unit using materials (feeder lines, etc.) provided with the controls? Or does the plumber need to run a separate water line from the controls to each spray head or group? If its plumbed as a unit, the controls may have features that ensure the pressure and flow is consistent for each head, but if you make your own design to interconnect everything you will need to have a plumber that understands how to keep it all balanced.
