Cabinet pull up on cabinet, not sure I'm crazy about it!
Comments (14)Oh, another note. Choosing pulls was really hard for me, & I did find pulls that I loved - really loved - but ended up with some rather pedestrian but perfectly functional pulls that do indeed work well with all of the other elements in my kitchen (& cost a WHOLE lot less than some of the ones I loved, which was a big part of the equation for me). And the pulls I have are just fine - they do what they're supposed to do, & they do a very good job of it. And I love the way they feel, and I'm perfectly happy with them. FWIW :)...See MoreGoin' crazy with cabinet color
Comments (16)Thanks everyone! No more tests! I did the Sweeby test more than a year ago and please don't put my back there again!! ;) What I want: a friendly, warm, and inviting space with a sense of humor, a good dose of calm, and a bit of perkiness. My 10 year old and I have had a few very tough years and i want efficiency, comfort, and a place for everything. Storage is at a premium -- no closets at all on my first floor -- and so I have tried to fit in all the shelf space that I could. And as I put in my other post, I want a kitchen eating space so that my daughter can eat breakfast while I rush around the kitchen getting her ready for school. I posted about cabinet color because I was stuck. I had it all picked out and then the floor could not be stained as originally planned and with a lighter floor, I just couldn't see what I wanted. Thanks for the pictures and the advice -- rhome, especially your pictures! I like that glass tile. My dishes and bowl have a dark blue on them that I was hoping would look delicious on my open shelves. I think it will! I am still teetering between a white and the wood but i have something to look at this week. i am hoping for a decision very, very soon! I want this project finished before the year is out! Comments (46)UPDATE: Thanks to you guys here (and mostly thanks to Joseph Corlett's link regarding Silestone slab sizes), they agreed to do away with one of the seams. They kept insisting that they would not do a stretch of stone more than 110", and when I insisted that my color of Silestone comes in jumbo slabs of 128", they "did some research" and conceded that I was correct, and there is no need for two seams in my 150" stretch of counter. I'm updating here for anyone who may have the same questions and issues that I did. I spent countless hours researching and digging and arguing, so hopefully I can save someone else the hassle. You can check the Silestone website for the slab sizes in your color. There is no need for a seam to "prevent cracks"; Silestone is (allegedly) 4x bendier than granite, and if you wanted to put the whole damn slab down you could. Keep in mind though - if your Silestone DOES crack or chip at some point (and it will...it's notorious for chipping despite the durability claims) - you're on the hook for it. Their "warranty" does not cover cracks or chips. Hundreds of consumers have told their stories about bumping a water glass against the edge and it chips, with no damage to the glass, and Cosentino denies the claims, citing abuse of the counter or something. Same with random cracks, etc. Just be aware - these are issues that you will have to call Joseph Corlett to come fix, out of your own pocket. I love the look of mine so I'm willing to deal with those issues, but buyer beware....See MoreHelp! Rugs have made me crazy
Comments (6)Hi LH -- If it helps you move forward, I'm happy to tell you what I see when I look at what you've already chosen, then evaluate that against some of the unknowns. So...to me, your current choices say someone who's not afraid to mix things up and who likes to create a stew of light and dark, bright and muted tones. Running through the main players, you have: - charcoal blue lower cabs - deep brown armchair - light/med grey sofa - light grey/white-ish geometric rug (overall impression: light/airy) - medium-dark exotic DR table - bolder, colorful art mixed with more serene but still color-fused art (overall impression: blues, yellow-oranges, yellow-greens) To me, the blue DR chairs are going to do the best job of really bringing out the beauty of the tigerwood. Because they're a lower-contrast combo, they'll also let the eye register the chairs/table as a unit and kind of glide onward. They'll also echo your cabinets and tones in the art. Picking that path does seem to call for one of the rugs with a little blue. I know some feel open plans rooms should have rugs that relate well to each other, so play that out for bit -- If *you* had to pick one of the 3 as a mate to the LR rug, which would it be?...See MoreConnecticut Yankeeeee
