Recently purchased cutting of varigated monstera.
Comments (14)Hi Tasha, the variegated Monstera looks great, I've got one too and I really think it's a very nice type of variegation. The browning is really annoying though, mine does the same, the white parts seem very susceptible to it. Your cutting looks healthy and should do fine. I have taken cuttings like this, of the growing tip of the plant before, and they've always done well. Monsteras seem quite easy to propagate, as I've recently learned (quite new to this!). You can also get new plants from sections of the main stem - they will grow new shoots from the nodes they have at each point where a petiole joins the main stem. Comments (5)was the smell there before you did all the work? if so then agree maybe your describing mold smell. I would be looking around water sources, up under sinks, around the water heater, take the central vent off and smell in there, maybe spray some bleach water in the vent area or on the filter, (have you changed the filter?)...See MoreUpdating recently purchased mid century modern home exterior?
Comments (25)That's a wonderful first home and looks well maintained - congratulations. From the examples you've been given, I would go with one of the darker greens, or darker brown. My own single story MCM is dark unsweetened chocolate brown - all of it, no brick other than built in planters in front - and in searching back through neighborhood photos, has been this color since built 1955. I have no plans to change it. I like the way it blends into the landscape as though a part of it, and not something just dropped into place from somewhere else ;0) I think blue would have that effect on your home with the treed background. One thing the PO had done here was paint the underside of the soffits warm white. I think if the darker color, it would appear a little dark when inside looking out...you might want to keep that in mind when painting along your parking and basketball hoop area and keep the part the overhangs the brick light colored on the underside. No one will notice from outdoors....See MoreMy recent purchases
Comments (9)I found a Great Expectations at a local nursery today. I know it's a risky buy, but I'd like to give it a shot. Note the roots growing out of the bottom. I assume it needs a bigger pot, but how much bigger? These are the options I have on hand: (I can evict that Fire and Ice to the smaller pot if needed.) I also bought some Carex, Creeping Jenny, and a plant that is new to me, Muehlenbeckia axillaris 'Nana' (Creeping Wire Vine), on the recommendation of a worker at the nursery as tolerating both shade and some foot traffic. I also purchased a Brilliance Autumn Fern. I've planted it already, near our bird feeder, hoping it will hold up to the birds and squirrels better than a hosta might....See MoreSeniorBalloon
