Leave it as it is. There will be enough dusting up there when left empty don't add a whole bunch of stuff to make that a whole day job.

I would not plop things on the cabinets. Try adding some large, bright-colored, or heavily textured objects in the glass front cabinets to break up the expanse of the wall and cabinet.

Horizontal art hung on the wall might be interesting. The choice would depend on the rest of the decor in the room. This one is from Etsy.

Consider adding concealed tape lighting so you can have a nice glow at night.

I would consider painting just the wall above in the same colour as the cabinets or the ceiling .

Nothing over cabinets…have clear glass replaced with antique mirror or tinted glass…really a kitchen does not need so much display! I would rather have it store kitchen items that are not used on a regular basis…I think it will give your beautiful kitchen a cleaner look….I do like wall art sets hung over cabinets.

I wouldn't put anything at all above cabinets, that's way too much clutter. Fill the glass cabs with colorful things, but choose a theme and keep it cohesive. The items you have in there are a little random.

Are the chairs/barstools new enough to return? Or old enough to replace or reupholster? I'd bring in color there instead, but I realize that's kind of an expensive fix.

Nothing would be my choice, but it sounds like your craving something. Art would be my next choice.

I don't think it would look good to have stuff up there. Too cluttered. I would instead select some thoughtful objects to go in the cabinets with glass fronts. Get ones that are visable from a far and complement the colors of your space, perhaps wood to play off of the beams. Here are some examples:

Nothing on top the cabinets. Paint the wall the same color of the cabinets. It will really add height to the cabinets by tricking the eye.

Nothing above. Not every space has to be filled with stuff.

I have stacked cabinets with high ceilings. Have nothing above and I went with solid doors for the upper row of cabinets, because I didn't need any more areas to decorate/stage. Sometimes less is more!

No to the film, antiqued or otherwise, very dated. Nothing is good on top. Coordinating stoneware or art glass in glassed in area

Plants on top of cabinets too high to be watered screams “fake plant dust collector”. Nothing above top cabinets. Display 1 colorful, correct -sized item inside each glass front cabinet - white and glass items aren’t visible enough to make an impact. Go “shopping” for seldom-used items inside your cabinets and around your home.

I would address some of the minor problems in the kitchen before tackling what to do above the cabinets.

I'm sure you could be more creative then my image below but rather than placing things on top of the cabinets, it might be better to hang items on the wall.
