A Bay Window with only one Window!

I need help! This window is driving my crazy. Its a bay window with only one window. What can I do here to make this space look better?

I would like a round table but dont have one at the moment. If I had my wish, I would just put in 2 more windows with trim work making it look more uniform and like a true bay.

But this is a rental for 3-4 years. We were supposed to build our home on a piece of property we purchased right outside of Waco Texas but have decided to wait a few years until interest rates relax a bit. Owners dont care what we do with the property as long as its improving the value. I would love some expert opinions!!

What I’d do in this room:

A curtain rod that spans the width of the window wall, with art on each side wall.

Terrible mock-ups, but hard for me to do a good one from an angle. I don’t know your decor style, or measurements, so am just showing the idea … not suggesting these specific items.

Whatever shape table you decide, it might work/look better to lay the rug vertically, as well as the table (unless you do a round one). You’ll need to show more angles of the room for more suggestions on placement.

I definitely wouldn’t sink a lot money into someone else’s house and I wouldn’t try to cheesy fake that there are windows there — curtains all the way around, mirrors, etc. You could embrace it and make it a cool art nook.

ETA: Another idea, if you’re a handy DIYer, is a bench built-in. You’d just have the one window, yes, but again, could do art on the side walls, and have pillows. If you’re handy, it shouldn’t be a huge investment, or you could use bench seating that’s not built-in. Just depends on your needs.

I like the idea of using drapes and thanks for the pic @valinsv and I will probably be stealing your bay window look with the candles etc. it looks great. Our living room is tiny and I have noticed that since I removed the vertical blinds, the room feels so much bigger than before, which is why I wanted to go with something mounted inside the window. Do you guys think that using the drapes will make the room feel small again, or will using the inside mount blinds, make it even worse? The drapes across the window will certainly make my life a whole lot easier. Someone had also mentioned traverse rods which I had never heard of. I have looked into them, but I am not sure if it is a solution I would like since it seems as though I will have to use the little hooks on my blinds. Has anyone ever used them, and if so any thoughts? Thanks for the tip on the handles, I will look for them the next time I am at Lowes. Thanks!

I would suggest Hunter Douglas cellular shades for each window. They have several styles to choose from. They should be mounted into the ceiling and measured and hung professionally. The measure would fit each window individually and perfectly. You could have just top down or top down bottom up which would give you the most flexibility. If you choose, you could do a simple valance at the top, inside the bay, to hide the hardware.

It would also depend on the outside of your house. My original living room had 3 double hung, side by side window. I replaced them with a larger fixed center window and a narrower casement on each side, with in the glass muntins. (Noted that you have sliders with muntins). The new window area looks bigger than the previous ones, although it is in the same location. Also, hanging your drapes so that they expand further to each side and cover less of the window would make the window area look larger, even if you don’t change the current bay.

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much! I love your suggestions. It gives me a confident start. I agree! I dont like cheesy and I cant sink a ton of money into it… but I am handy and love the idea of a little window seat! Love the idea of wall art on each side/ mirror. I have also never even considered moving the table a different direction. That would significantly help the space between bar stools and dining. Thank you so much!

Can we see the entire room. Why the table up against the window? Seems squished. If the rug is turned so should the table turn.

No rug for this area and replace the rectangular table with a round table. I like the idea of the curved banquette but that can get $$$

@BeverlyFLADeziner has the right idea with the round table and open chairs. See if you can find something for a good price on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

On the right side of the window, I'd hang two attention grabbing vertical pieces of art. Treat that as a focal area to anchor your round table nook. The pic below has a super weird corner going on and the pics they hung just take your attention away from the strange corner and balance the whole area out.

I think she is right that it looks better with no rug. Consider a sheer curtain for the window that goes down to the floor.
