Exterior folding glass walls / bi-fold doors

Are there any bi-fold exterior door vendors you’re happy with or would stay away from? There are surprisingly few reviews, especially from people who’ve had them awhile.

I’ve been getting quotes ranging from $6k to $25k for a folding 12’x80” wall (thermally broken aluminum, low e, tempered, argon, 4 panels with 1 everyday/swing door). The only clear difference is top vs bottom supported and it’s not obvious which is better since we can make either work.

Some more familiar brands have mixed reviews, other unknowns have either good or no reviews. (So far I’ve looked at Nanawall, Panoramic, La Cantina, Marvin, Teza, EZ Fold-A-Door, Milgard, Eris Home, Origen). Any recommendations?

This is for our pool house, replacing 2 sets of rotted French door. I want something that will last but doesn’t need to be the fanciest - saving that for our living room doors next year. 😜

Most of the vendors don’t have showrooms or local installs in NorCal where I can see the doors in person, unfortunately.

Is the laundry room going to be the full size of the current raised tub area or smaller? If it's going to take up the whole space, then why not put the wall just to this side of the current wall tile, thus avoiding walling in the tile?? If that's too big, then I'd just take down the wall tile and put new drywall in. It's a pretty simple job. And it'll look better, since the tile doesn't go all the way around the space.

Good side is that it means my window guy is legit and looking out for me, bad side is that I now have to spend $13K (:eek:) to get the look I wanted with this room. He was pretty clear that part of it is they will need to beef up the structure to support the doors.

Got a bid from Marvin doors $17k (Wood) and Panoramic Doors (Vinyl) $10k for a 10’ by 8’ door. Panoramic doors have 10 year warranty and customer service so far has been amazing! Seeing the Marvin door in person I was extremely unimpressed especially for the price. I like the fact that it was explained that Panoramic doors carry the weight at the bottom not the top. I was originally concerned about overall structure with such a large door. I’m finding it hard to reach anyone at Nana wall and getting a quote online is a pain.

Hi, I don't think bifold doors is a great plan as you lose a lot of width in the doorway when they are folded against the wall. If you're coming in with groceries, you are going to have trouble getting through with your hands full into a 30" wide space that has at least 4-6 inches of bifold door folded. We have a similar issue at our basement stairs and we have two narrower "french doors" that latch in the middle. Here is an example. Depending on the hinges you use, you may be able to get them to fold back more than 90 degrees which would help with your traffic flow into the kitchen. Have a look at Richelieu Hardware for hinge options and other clever ideas.

I have found Fleetwood, La Cantina, and Nanawall locally. Will check out Western and Arcadia. It’s a lot of the newer/less known brands (some with great reviews, some with none) that I really don’t know what to make of.
