I'm so frustrated with lamp shopping -HELP!!!
Comments (12)Darn, I wrote out a long response and lost it to cyberspace. Alice, thanks, I'm glad you love that pendant too. I love the lamp you posted from HF and it's on my short list. But I'm wondering if I should find something completely different that co-ordinates. I'm afraid it will look like I tried to match and missed and not like I made a planned decorating decision. Yeah, engineery feel - I love how that triangle holds the bowl. Organic, I purchased it from a local lighting store where they had a ton of catalogues. I wish I can remember what company it came from, alas I can't. It's 10 years old and I have not seen anything like it on any of the websites because I was hoping to find co-ordinating lamps. Yes, I think I'll need something with a different form but I'm clueless. The finish is shiny silver - I guess stainless steel or whatever? sky...See MoreUpper frustration help!!
Comments (25)I prefer the first one...but the one you got from Allwood has the sink moved back right next to the refrigerator...so it looks like very little work room to the left of the sink. Which means, conflict while trying to prep and someone cleaning up. One note: you say you live with the issue of prepping over the DW, but you don't sound like you're thrilled with it. If you're spending $$$$ on a remodel, don't you think you should try to fix the existing problems? It's up to you, but in all honesty, I would not want to spend all that $$$ just to have the same problems I started with. I won't say any more about it, but I hope you think about it. I just want you to have the best kitchen you can have...both functionally and aesthetically....See Moretotally frustrated with paint color!!! help me!!!!
Comments (19)Well, after all this time and all these samples, I think I may have finally decided. Believe it or not, the color I like is the same exact color that's been on my bedroom walls for several years now - SW Svelte Sage. Svelte looks like a neutral green on my bedroom walls, but somehow in the living room, it looks like the color I've been envisioning all along - a muted, sophisticated aqua or sea green. I don't see hardly any blue in the chip, but if there's any blue whatsoever in a color, my living room pulls it out like a vaccuum. I kind of wish the color was a tad bit lighter, but I tried Grassland, the lighter chip on the same strip, and thought it was too light. I also find it amazing how much the color can change. I did a big sample wall without bothering to go all the way to the ceiling and baseboards yesterday. I came back today and finished the edges, and the color looks significantly different just from getting rid of the tan that was still peeking out at the edges. Before I totally commit, I think I'll go buy a quart in the actual paint I plan to use. I was going to try to go with Aura, but since this is a SW paint, and SW is right down the street from me, I thought I'd go with Duration, or Harmony. I want to use a matte finish and still have something that can be wiped off. Any experience with SW's high end paints? I'll post some pics later this evening for your opinions....See Morefrustrated with how the kitchen is turning out and oak bashing
Comments (71)I have bashed my previous kitchens' oak cabinets but only because they were the awful pickled kind (not put in by us!). In our first kitchen, I liked everything but the finish on our cabs. The layout was nice, the size was good and even the seafoam green laminate did not bother me. I love the size and amount of the cabs. Dh liked the house instantly because of the cathedral ceilings, skylights, open layout, etc... I liked everything but the kitchen cabs and knew they were in too good of shape to justify taking them out. So, I dealt with them for 7 years and would probably still be dealing with them now 6 years later. In our current house, the pickled oak cabs were small, the surface was wearing poorly, the layout was wrong and there were no pullouts or anything functional about them. When the pickled finish starts to wear on oak, it is a sorry sight to see. Other materials develop patina and character, while pickled oak looks diseased with age. I have seen nice kitchens done with oak and may even consider one someday if we were to move (God forbid, after all the effort put in here, lol). I have also seen ones done poorly and done as the cliche of "builder's oak". I also feel that way about some of the new materials that all builders in our area are using (and I do mean "all"). Those kitchens look alike and all are brown wood with beige tumbled travertine, St Cecilia granite or similar, Tuscan type accents and a yellow/gold wall paint. In a few years, people around here will be bashing the heck out of those. Remember the laminate cabs with the oak strip on the bottom? They went from fabulous to hideous pretty quickly in popular opinion from the 80s to the 90s. See anyone using them lately? Oak just needs some time until it becomes retro enough to be cool. Most things come back in time. Just be patient, and you will be ahead of the curve again ;)...See Moredecorpatti
