If a light is touchable from the tub or shower then it must be a sealed, other wise you can put in what you want.

I would post this in the lighting forum, there is an excellent and very helpful guy over there, that can answer that better than most of us here. I did put recessed (can lights in my bathroom). I hired a building contractor, to do the work, so He bought them and thus I "know NOT", what they are, but they work and look great, and dim well. I do believe he bought them at Home Depot, they are 6" cans. Gary

I would plan for the lighting to be complementary, not for the recessed lighting to be all coverage: Plan for the recessed lighting to provide good general lighting for the bathroom as a whole, but don't expect it to be in the correct position to light the vanity and the mirror in the way it should be lit. In other words light the bath from the ceiling like you would light a kitchen from the ceiling, enough to illuminate the whole room as general lighting, but don't expect it to be the task lighting as well. Plan the vanity lighting for optimal vanity lighting. This is essentially the task lighting. It should be switched separately. Light the shower separately. Sometimes I like to take a shower in the relative dark, compared to the rest of the bathroom. Sometimes I like the shower light to serve as a night light or for guests to at least navigate in the bathroom. Overlight it all slightly and put it all on dimmers. I recommended switching the fans separately and no lights on the fan. The light they provide is generally pure glare. I am doing a bathroom that is the size of some showers (28 square feet total) and it is still going to have 3-4 lighting circuits and a separate fan circuit.

I always vote for plenty of light, so I'd go for the canned LED, especially if you want to read in the tub or do chores such as bathing the kids or the dog. You may not need a 6" though. We just had 4" put in our kitchen and master bath and they are plenty bright. Make sure to choose your LED color wisely - we preferred the ones in the 3500 range - more like natural light than the ones leaning toward yellow or blue. We also put ours on a dimmer (make sure to get a dimmer that works with LED). I'd also center the can - people naturally look for balance, and a light shifted to the right or left may "feel off" to you.
