backsplash grout

I purchased this tile with all intentions of using white grout for a backsplash.

The above photo shows the left side with white grout, but once I saw it, it seemed to erase all the white tiles, so we immediately removed it (thats the dripping water you see). The right side is without grout... It just seems to POP more without grout, but I know I need grout. Does anyone have a recommendation? I've done a few sample boards since my mistake, with a greyish color, still doesn't seem to bring out the color! Help!!

I'd probably pick up the light tan/beige color of the flecks in your countertop. It would give you the definition you're looking for but still work with your counters. It would also create a tie-in with your cabinet color.

THANK YOU, but i'm just afraid those colors might overpower the blues... my appliances are powder blue. I have attached what the window sill would look like too. I am not opposed to a beige tan color. We've bought 3 bags of other colors, so I suppose I will buy one more : )

Many years back, a member here started the arabesque tile trend. She has Antico Bianco granite which looks like yours. Google Beekkeeperswife, GW kitchens and see her kitchen threads. She moved and used the same tile again but with White Princess granite (?) I agree with Chispa. I think Bee used grout to match the tiles.

Here is an image of your tile in Verne Yip’s bathroom. If you’re looking for the same look, go grey. Consider Tec’s standard grey. Dove grey is a little beige. You can take your leftover tile back to HD and look at grout swatches there to get an idea of the look. You don’t want a brown grey or a blue grey, just grey, no undertones.

Well we are starting to get used to it. My husband made the cabinetry by hand and he really put his heart and soul into this project, but some mistakes were made. We wanted the tile to recede into the background. I should have done a lighter color grout or a translucent grout, but I will post another picture when it's done.

Update: contractor wants to use Mapei UltraColor Pro FA, so that settles the type. I think we will do 3/16" joint since that seems to be recommended for handmade tile with irregularities. Now: color! My countertop is Caesarstone Organic White. Cabs are a custom greyish green. The Stellar color is Cloud Dancer. Luckily (?) UltraColor comes in every color that Mapei makes. I'd like a grey color that provides *some* contrast but isn't too dark. When I went to look at the Mapei chips, I liked Iron the best (seemed warmer), but now I'm worried it is too dark and will look almost black against the grey/white tile. Ideally I'd like it to blend with the tones in the countertop. Anyone with experience with that counter with any recommendations? Thanks!

If you go with a very light tone of the same tan, you should be fine. If you have extra tile, you could ask your installer to do a sample before you put it on the backsplash.

There’s a clear grout out there - it’s been years since I used it. It might have come from Lowe’s. It works really well with multi colored mosaics. BTW - I love the counter and tile combo

Yes we found something today called (I think) Bostik clear grout. I’m looking into that option too. Thank you for your comments on the colors. Just never dreamed I’d have a grout concern! 😊

Your tiles all seem to have the same tan/gray ring around the edges. Can you match that? It is a nice neutral that will tie the colors together. Bonus if it also matches the countertop fleck.

You could use one of your blue shades for grout if the tan doesn't do it for you.

I like the white, but Mapei Warm Gray would be another perfect choice. not too gray, not to white

I would not use anything blue since you've already got so much going on. blue grout would be overkill here.

Gray used as a grout almost disappears. the eye really doesn't detect it.

It would be very close to how this looks:

hard to really see, but I used it here on my shower tiles. both wall/niche

3 diff company options. upper lt-Custom, Upper rt-mape, lower 4-Laticrete

In my spare bath I have the Vetrazzo and a glass mosaic til. I believe I used Bone grout on this one. I did it myself about 12 years ago.

Make up a sample board w/left over tile on carboard or a piece of wood, and try the diff colors you like.

How do you plan on dealing w/the part you've already grouted?

fyi, you should never do your grouting on diff days. even something as small as water temp or air temp, or diff measures of water w/the grout can affect the final color. you'll be able to see a slight diff from the one that's already done.

if you do the gray color, what are you going to do about that white portion?

hard to find tile like yours grouted, but here's a blue w/a medium gray grout. this is darker than warm gray

warmer beige tone, like an ivory or off white

medium gray grout.

You'll want unsanded, right?

may i suggest pulls for your doors? better than knobs, imo.
