best no care plants for zone 10b
Comments (6)Wow... this is a tall order. I LOVE my philodendrons and they are almost care-free. However, I do have to trim the bottom growth all year long so I don't know if that is something to consider. Plumbago is great for their prolific blue blooms but will get overgrown in no time... I trim mine at least 4x's a year. You can hardly go wrong with live oaks. If you want to create shade and have a long lived tree they are perfect. A fringe tree (Chionanthus virginicus) is low maintenance and a native that I think is quite underused. It will only get to about 30 feet tall and has the added attraction of blooming. Linchat has a great suggestion with the firebush which I echo... they are wonderful for color and attracting butterflies. Coontie is my all time favorite no-care evergreen. They are cold and drought tolerant, long-lived, very hardy... ZERO maintenance. In keeping with the native theme I am a big fan of saw palmettos ... other than occasional trimming of the bottom fronds they are long-lived, hardy native plants with ZERO maintenance. Then there are some grasses I'd suggest for care-free ease. Muhly grass and Gama grass need very little attention once established. They take up a good amount of space and thrive in full sun, poor soil and add movement to the garden. Hope that helps... sounds like a fun project. Meems...See MoreHansa rugosa rose in zone 10b?
Comments (8)I have two rugosas coming and curious to know more about how they will do in my warm climate. Do they get as big as in their preferred cold climates or does the heat somewhat inhibit their height? Would they still get the typical rugosa fall foliage colors in zone 10-11? They probably won't go dormant so I am thinking they might just stay green all year and not get the fall foliage? Would they be happier in a part-shaded spot if they don't like the heat? If anyone here is growing them in a warm zone it would be great to learn from your experience with them!...See MoreDo miniature roses (Kordana) need full or part sun in zone 10B?
Comments (12)dirtygardener on the other one i used the Miracle Grow fertilizer for plants and roses. It seems to like it because out of nowhere it bloomed four roses at the exact same time. The reason i had bought those on clearance was because they were kind of ugly and had no blooms so no one bought them. They looked liked they were going to die, but alas, they really turned around after i cared for them for some weeks. Do you have any brand suggestions i should try out? These are the only two rose plants i have....See MoreShrub in Los Angeles - Zone 10b
Comments (17)My apologies all (carol23, JXBrown, Colwynn, floral_uk, chloebud)! Did not have phone with me when I saw this plant. I will get a shot of the shrub, was not sure if I would get back to that area. Thanks everyone for input, I will do my part with more details. I am leaning toward it being Pavonia praemorsa @gyr_falcon. I will upload a photo of entire plant within the next hour....See MoreChristopher CNC
