Help- Wood floors in bathroom in a rental

We have a 1960s cabin that has lovely Doug fir floors in the bathroom. The room was likely a bedroom before it was converted to a bathroom. The issue is that it is a short-term rental and we can assure that guests will avoid keeping water off the floor when getting out of the shower. Plus it can be a disaster if the shower curtain is not entirely within the shower enclosure.

Now onto the question: what is the simplest flooring solution for this situation without tearing out the wood floor? Can we lay down a vapor barrier and then place vinyl floor tile over the top?
