How would you update this modest colonial ranch exterior
Comments (30)oh, melle..you know they now show me listings in your area, lol? probably because of these two you shared once..as an examples of what you like/dislike.. but since i didn't know your neighbourhood of preference, etc..In short I just looked at them the kitchen does look like a garage! I like the fire red, very bold of them; but layout is not easy. no countertop around the stove makes it really challenging lots of work, or so I envision bathrooms too..although it might be photos distort the places. Bathrooms are hard to shoot too they're smaller. possibilities will reveal themselves to you when there Iike the living, the backyard(possibilities!) , and the house overall is nice. I do think brick has nothing to do there. But I'd go there and feel it you know? It can be 15 things that you dislike and one you love, and that one will overweight other 15.. ah. don't mind their decor. just kinda wipe it when looking..in your mind. interesting bedroom with that step.....See MoreNeed some design suggestions for front exterior update
Comments (5)Landscaping would be a huge impact , I don’t love the blue but for sure not a blue door. Some nice pots of flowers on the porch and it is hard to tell if there is room for some seating....See Morehow would you update this exterior?
Comments (11)I likely will be naming the styles incorrectly (someone will correct me). It seems that you have a federal style house with some random Victorian "gingerbread" thrown on via the door and porch detail. I would follow Beth H's suggestions for door style, remove the railings/balusters (both upper and lower) on the porch. If you want to keep a railing across the porch instead of leaving it open, choose something simpler with wider spaced balusters -- but I would leave it open to show off the windows. Leave the triangle above the doorway neutral. I've seen those painted in with a color, along with the flanking pillars, but with a basic black and white scheme there wouldn't be anything that would connect to so I don't think that would work. PS Would you consider a pale creamy white instead of white white on the trim?...See Morewhat would you do to this exterior?
Comments (10)Stall on the roof while you do some research IMO. If your home photo is current (as in this week), since you don't have leaves on the trees yet and your lawn is brown, you evidently live in a northern area with snow? In those conditions, standing seam seems to be the way to go.... HOWEVER.... and this is why I say to research first. See how your house is in the blazing sun? Research solar. My roof is purpose-built for solar, neither standing seam nor shingle. I've been getting at least some solar power all winter (except one month), yep, even though we get a lotta snow here. If your state has an agency for energy efficiency—as mine does—get their advice and see if they have grants for solar or incentives dependent on income. Tip: If you're researching solar, also find out if your state has net-metering. That way, you can generate solar in summer to pay the bills in winter. Cost out EVERYTHING for your overall savings, and not just the expense of the solar panels. Cost out utility savings per month, projected increase in value of home, tax reduction, if the roof costs less than a standing seam or shingle because the materials/techniques are different.... Arrive at your long-term savings, not just your short-term expense....See Morekandrewspa
