First floor, flooring dilemma

We moved into our house about 7 years ago and had to put in new flooring in basically every room, We waited on the kitchen and hall entrance because we knew we would be doing a complete renovation to our 1970's kitchen.

So when we replaced the living room and dinning room CARPETS (ugh) we choose a classic, traditional hardwood floor in a rich coffee bean color.

Our dilemma now is;

my husband is 100% against the whole first floor being a dark hardwood that runs throughout. He is also not found of hardwood in the kitchen area.

I am having a hard time because I cant have 4 different flooring options on my first floor anymore, so our options would be:

A) put a Luxe Vinyl hardwood in the kitchen to try and match the existing flooring. Then leave the marble entrance the way it is...

B) Put a light colored Luxe Viny hardwood or "tile" into the kitchen and also the entrance way.

Is your hardwood flooring discontinued?

Your two options are very limited. Whatever you do, do not try to "match" flooring...it will forever look odd because they will always be a little off.. And do not have two different shades of real or faux hardwood next to each other either. Or in other rooms for that matter.

The time to redo the marble entry was when you did the living room. Now you really have no choice but to leave it marble. You could redo the marble entry with a new stone or tile and do the kitchen in the same material.

You didn't mention what fllooring is in the other rooms or what they are. Bedrooms? Family room? At this point I would install a neutral wall-to-wall carpet in them. You don't want different tones of hardwood even if they are separate rooms.

The last option is to have the current coffee bean floor sanded to bare wood, install new hardwood flooring throughout in the same wood, and then have it all, everything, finished in the same color stain. Hardwood floors are just fine in the Kitchen as long as they are sealed.

Vinyl with its repeat and stripey tone variation will not match or blend with hardwood. Change all the floor to light European Oak throughout. Wide plank engineered hardwood flooring in European Oak and Walnut (monarchplank.com) Many sources are offering this very popular option. Non-yellow and without dark open grain like N.American oak.

I've been part of a Residential Home's purchase of 8mm cork glue down cork tiles in their common area. The tiles were site finished with 2 coats of Loba 2K Supra AT. The cork is thick with natural energy absorbing abilities. The Loba 2K Supra AT is a HIGH GRIP product - even when damp. An elderly resident fell from a standing position. They landed heavily on their hip. They were taken to EMERG for X-Rays. There was no sign of a break. The resident was Dx with a 'deep bone bruise' and sent home to rest. The Home's director stated that previous falls of that nature usually have resulted in broken bones. This was the first time the home had seen a serious fall that did not result in broken bones. The cork was the difference maker. Cork is finicky but can be made super tough without compromising on aesthetics. It can be used INSTEAD OF carpet. In fact it is a 'carpet replacement' product. When done properly it can last 130+ years (Library of Congress received their cork floor in 1890's....it is STILL THERE...in it's original state).

@kandrewspa here are my cabinets. This color is called “Dove,” which is an off white (but reads white), but brighter white cabinets are also a possibility. It’s between those two tones. I welcome any suggestions for flooring color etc. My contractor will be installing the floors first, so that why I’m scrambling to select floors now. Regardless of what countertop I end up with, I feel like I’m limited (for the reasons discussed above) to a neutral tone anyway. I’ll post pics of the countertops I’m considering.

@ Patricia Thanks, that’s helpful. I see that Pax attaches to the wall but my thinking was that it still rests on the floor, I think? With that in mind, if we install the closet system before the floor, my thinking was that we would not install new floor under the closet boxes. - it’d just be bare. Is that considered acceptable? We’re not looking to resell, just don’t want to mess things up.
