Remodeling Design Dilemma

What color cabinets with Alabaster trim and walls??

Hello- we are about to renovate our home and thinking about alabaster for the trim and walls. The morning sun is pretty strong in the kitchen. Should we stay with the same color kitchen cabinets (alabaster) or go with a color that would contrast? We are planning on a white oak island as well.

I think it depends on what your vision of the cabinet contrast would be - a brighter white? a warmer white? Think of the cabinets as your permanent fixture in the space. That color would be chosen first. Wall colors can change and are selected after. Alabaster is a beautiful color. If it is used for ceilings and trim, it may look slightly different just using different sheens, and vertical vs horizontal but can certainly compliment together. Hope some pro's chime in, but posting photos of your space may help get better ideas.

Pick your cabinets first then pick your trim colour to compliment-not the other way around.

So I would want the walls to still be an off white with enough contrast to make the Alabaster trim to still pop and look like the cleaner white. Alabaster has a Chroma value of 0.66. Which means there's going to be a very short list "off-white" wall colors to go with Alabaster trim The rule of thumb to make a color of white look like the cleaner white is to pair it with a color that has a Chroma value 0.20 more or less than. From this list, PPG's Delicate White, Chroma 0.38, is a good option. Sherwin-Williams' "match" to Delicate White is good.

I'm with you, I generally hate "ceiling white" when I see it in a room. Why not use Alabaster? it is a white, isn't it? Or, you can use a pale whiff of color - if your walls have a color, you could use a similar color, or a color that complements but doesn't match. White walls, any pale color you like!
