Have you ever run across a thread called 'The Sweeby Test'? (You can find it in the Kitchen Forum.) Think of a classic black dress that you plan to wear to a social occasion. What do you wear with it? Simple pearls, hose and black pumps? A colorful scarf and red stilettos? A bold and funky necklace and boots? They ALL look good, but in a completely different way. You know the look you want for this particular social occasion -- so apply that same philosophy to your kitchen. The basic idea is that the right choice should be made to further your overall design goal -- NOT just on its own. So plain subways might be just what your kitchen needs to give you the look you want. Or a bold and colorful tile mosaic. Or sleek glass strips. Or traditional 4x4's set on a diagonal. All can look good -- but really only a few will take you where you want to go. What 'vibe' or 'feel' do you want your kitchen to have? Vintage? Classic? Elegant? Cozy? Modern? Write down the FEELING you want to achieve - not the LOOK - and that will give you a much clearer sense of the direction you need your backsplash to take.

I don't think many of us are familiar with tigerwood so you may get answers that focus on your cabinets more than your floor. In online photos, it's pretty dramatic. It also has warm tones, even orange. I read that it darkens over time. I saw your post on Home Decor where you planned on using a different counter on your island. I thought at the time that it broke one of the design rules of keeping countertops the same when the kitchen is small. But now that I see how striped the floor is, I would highly advise you use the same counter. I know your floorplan well, and your kitchen can only handle so much drama. It's possible that the creamy granites will conflict with the movement of the floor. Yet I wouldn't go with a dark counter or one with too much gold. If you absolutely love dramatic granites, I'd use a different floor. Is this a good representation of your floor? Imo, the cool gray tone of the counter looks off here. decker-That's great that you have enough to use the whiter sections! We had a similar scenario with our slab; it was darker at the bottom, so we used the upper, lighter section for the long counter run & a different chunk for the desk area on the other side of the kitchen. I had a cutting board (although I don't cut on it!) made from the darker section of our slab & keep it on the lighter section next to the sink. The contrast is lovely, & I wanted to preserve something from the beautiful darker section. You might consider; many fabricators give a free cutting board. Or you could make a Lazy Susan (we did this with a leftover piece from our soapstone island). Your slab is so beautiful and interesting! Love Sea Pearl. Pls keep us posted on your progress!

Pick either a soft green or a soft blue/gray. Gray will not work. Either will work if you're selling. You don't need to do linen or cream on the walls to sell. Sometimes a neutral color will actually make the house sing more and a soft blue/gray or a soft green can do that. (In fact the house I sold in 2010 during the recession had shades of green on the walls and that's what the new owners loved. The condo I sold in 2016 had a green bedroom and that's the one room color she loved the most.) Your light fixtures are fine. In fact they're timeless. Don't change them
