I was recently accused of posting off topic.

Which I didn't do so on purpose , but I felt really bad about it and publicly apologize for it.

So in the sense of being even more off topic , have anybody ever regretted posting something that just came across unintended and somebody felt offended about it.

I felt really ashamed and guilty about it and so felt prompted to post this.

I know that there are differences among "us" , physically , politically , religiously , sexually...

I assume this is a garden forum and quite a good one and that any differences can be overcome

with civility and respect .

Any feed back is encouraged .

Gee... all the groups I belong to go off-topic, at least on all the long ones. I'm with all those previous posters here. Some people just like to get their shorts-in-a-twist over nothing. Ignor them.

I think it is pretty easy to offend people these days, and especially because people can’t read a tone or intonation into what is written. In addition some of these forums are cliques, or so it appears, and some people are just rude. Everybody makes a gaffe now and then. It sounds like you are being pretty hard on yourself.

I have a question about Gertrude Jekyll. I pruned mine after its last flush to about 2-2.5ft and it looked pretty tidy for about two weeks It's since put out a couple of basals and new growth that has to be 5ft at least at this point. Gertrude Jekyll on 8/2/16 Gertrude Jekyll 8 days later As you can see, my GT is looking kind of gangly - Clearly I didn't prune it hard enough! My question is is it necessary to wait until after the cane blooms to cut it down? This is sitting out in front of a window at my apartment, and is kind of an eye sore to look at, plus, I don't want to draw unwanted attention. If it helps to know, I'm in NC zone 7b. AKA humid and hot!

I never give anything away that I don't expect people to kill. Many plants I've given away to people who don't already have established gardens end up dieing...most of it because it never even makes it into the ground. People -think- they want to garden way more than they actually garden. I see the same thing, even worse, from people who buy starts from stores/nurseries. I see the cartons/cells sitting on the back porch 2 months after they bought them fried to a crisp long ago. ...and a lot that do plant them give up on them or kill them before they even set fruit, too. I just live with it and roll on...

Nancy, We have been in the 90s for so long, and still are, for that matter...next week, at least, it is supposed to be low 80s, then the following week, 80s! But I have got to get the other iris bed weeded, and the very back most daylily bed. We have had so much rain, I haven't been able to get out, and the weeds are unbelievable. Edward, I would pay good money for those temps, but it will be at lease later October before we will see them if our weather follows its usual pattern. kay

What's the big deal about posting off-topic? It happens a lot, and often other posters don't really mind -- kinda like regular conversation, it just goes where it flows. Sometimes it's so off-topic it has no relation to the discussion and that can be annoying, but I don't see that happen all that often.

I don't know what other post you're referring to, but as far as I'm concerned, people get offended WAY too easily nowadays. Paper-thin skin, special snowflakes. I don't have a high tolerance for that...

I haven't put onions in yet. I have some coming in from Dixondale and my feed store has got some in too. We're fixin to get hit with a bad winter storm next week , ICE most likely. So won't be putting out onions till after that.

I usually put onions in around mid-to late Feb depending on conditions. Usually what happens to me then is a late single digit arctic front in early Mar , then I have to get in a mad rush to cover them up.

I plant potatoes about the same time.

Smart move. Onions can handle 20F with no trouble, but single digits are bad.
