People do that all the time. We did that when we moved in to our house a couple decades ago. We found a cabinet maker to re-do the affected cabinets. He stained them to match and did it so well you'd never know. (I still hate the color, but a color change/new cabinets has never been in our budget!).

It is very common to do this.

I moved into a condo that was built in 1965 so the space for the refrigerator was a small apartment sized model. I didn't want to deal with what most people did was to make a small renovation to fit a modern refrigerator because I planned a gut remodel but many people did minor renovations in order to fit a larger refrigerator - i.e. remove the upper cabinet. For the most part they didn't change the lower cabinets but lived with the width so that would really have caused a cascade of modifications

I am not sure what you are asking . A standard fridge is always free standing so all you are doing is getting a wider frdige and you are preapred for the added expense so go for it.

If you are talking about doing a built -in ref ( like a sub zero ) , they don't really have more storage than a freestanding ( or standard ref) . I think you might want to clarify exactly what you are looking for

I'd value the counter next to your frig. What I'd do is put in a tall 36" all refrigerator column unit with a left side hinge. Then find another location for a freezer unit. If you put it in a somewhat hidden space you can choose a less expensive 'white' model.

How many people in the household? What size fridge do you have now? Somewhere to put a second refrigerator? Do you have leftover flooring material that matches?

Because I would be loathe to give up the landing space next to the refrigerator and because making footprint changes is likely to require flooring material to patch.

If you are thinking about removing cabinets, etc., effectively remodeling a new kitchen, removing the corner pantry would be on my wish list, too.

It's doable. Especially if you can get cabinet info from the builder to match the existing cabinets.

The fridge will be pricey and the cabinet work not cheap, but if it's what works for you, it's probably worth it. (If you think it might look too big, get an integrated one so it isn't obvious.)

Why not just put an extra fridge in the laundry or garage like everyone else? No one ever uses their garages for cars anyway. You could put in 10 top freezer fridges! Imagine that storage. Still cheaper than what you want to do.

I won’t say it sounds crazy or will be a bad decision, but choosing a fridge of this size seems like it will occupy a huge space in your kitchen.
