Where to hang my 2 pendants over my 70" island?

Hi!

I have a 70" (5'10") long island by 50" depth. I have purchased two clear globed pendants, 14" diameter.

I'm second guessing where to place them and would love some input.

My current plan is to divide the 70' by 4 and hang each light 17.5 in from counter edge. The fixture will be about 3.5 in from the counter edge and there will be 21" between the edge of each fixture in the centre.

Would love some feedback if I should move the lights closer to the center so there is less room between them and more from the edge of the counter.

*updated to add* we will be putting recessed lights throughout the kitchen for the majority of the lighting.

looks like no existing electrical box(s) to work with, so I am guessing you will be adding.

While you are there, why not install some recessed lighting in the rest of the kitchen.

It appears to be an especially dark room, and those especially large globe lights will illuminate the space like an operating room.

Good lighting is the best 'decor' Pleae, think this through before you go any further.

To expand on what Lyn said, the light you will get from clear pendants is no different than bare bulbs so it will be very harsh. These are the type of fixtures that look good in pictures but I wouldn't want to live with one. Have you seen any pendants that have shielded lights that you like? And certainly a good point from Lyn about recessed lighting, but maybe you have already planned for that?

With a higher ceiling height, I think I would lean to the larger size. Despite the size of your island, I would worry that the smaller would look wimpy. Unless (like Michele mentioned), you went with three lights. Again, take my vote for what its worth, I obviously favor the bigger since that is what I did, but think it will look just fine either way. Isn't it odd there there is nothing in the middle....it is either 8" or 11". I guess the story of a remodel though...you can envision it yet can't find it, or you find it and it is out of your price range! And yes, now I can't imagine having my kitchen with what I orginally wanted either. I was thinking I wanted to match the stainless and pulls, but I do like how the current lights tie with the cabinets. The ORB was one of the several fortunate last minute decisions that I made!

I think about this occasionally - for whom am I designing, and at what focal distance? I am over the top in love with my backsplash from close-up but struggle to make it look 'perfect' from a distance. The pendants in your first picture from 9 hours ago are way too close together IMO, regardless of whether they block the hood. Attention grabbers, ok if the focus should be on them, and/or if you want to distract from something else. Pictures two and three blend in much more - is three from LBL? Now that I review your original post, I think placement, plus or minus a few inches, will be fine. PM me if I can help with any photoshopping. I was going to show some LBL pendants but really like the idea of globe pendants in your space, as you show.

The large ones, as that is a large island. I would try different distances using 16" baloons on a string, to figure out what I liked best in the given space.

As most common distance to have the pendant over the island/tabletops are 36", I would go with that distance but as you have a high ceiling and more room to play with I don't see why 4' couldn't work! I think it can look fine! Also, our lighting could be a great addition to your home. We do custom lighting so we will be able to work to feed your needs and wants. Different amount of pendants, and size of canopy etc. We also do 2D drawing before so you can have an idea of what it would look like before committing! One of the things I learned on this site: blow up balloons to the size of the pendants and then experiment with placement by hanging them over the island using @User approach and see what looks best (I did this and it made me more confident on where they should go)
