Go to a tile store and grab samples that you like - bring them home and look at them in the actual space. You've got a lot going on visually with the staggered top cabinets, arched cabinet doors and colorful light fixtures - none of which is "modern" (not a criticism - you cabinets/kitchen is lovely!). I could see several tile styles working for your backsplash well - a simple glossy arabesque maybe. Are you removing the 4" backsplash material that (presumably) was installed with the countertop?

A tile backsplash doesn't go with the four inches of the countertop material that is already there. One or the other. There is nothing wrong with just having painted wall above what's there. The current wall color looks pretty close to what you would want, or you can have more of a contrasting color. It looks like it's blue over the cabinets? If it's time to paint the whole room, choose something that works with the new counters and you're done. If your kitchen opens into another room you have to consider what is in there when choosing a paint color.

I would recommend something like this, it is a subway but has irregular edges, is textured and pearlescent. With the Arches and the Staggered heights, I feel an arched shape would be too much.

I do not see a 4" high backsplash in your photo so am assuming you are tiling to the countertop.

Looks like that is just damage from removing the old countertop.

No more arches those cabinets with the arches are already a very dated style so no need to enhance that. IMO the counter should have been a natural stone not that very cookie cutter quartz. I think with the very traditional space a nice moter of pearl backsplash could work

I like the simplicity of your counter with the busy-ness of the staggered cabinets, I think it was a good choice. I think the fall-back choice is a plain subway in a soft white that is the same tone as the counter, but you might also consider a subway in a very soft shade of green -- green and cherry pair beautifully.

I think I would go to a porcelain tile for the simplicity yet richness that it gives. any of these..with or without the inserted detail....nice blending of the counter with the cabinet shade you have when you find the perfect porcelain selection. a definite upgrade.

I would take the time and effort to change the blue walls above the cabinets. you want cohesive tones . you've got the floor in a bit bold stain [its fine ] so you dont need the blue as it is just stuck there with no relationship .
