Thermal (or insulated) curtains vs regular thick cotton curtains
Comments (0)Hello! When we bought our house a couple years ago, I took down all of the previous owners' curtains and gave them away on freecycle.. I love the clean look of having no curtains, and all the light that comes in. However, we live in PA and i'm realizing it is a big waste of heat in the winter (and somewhat a waste of the AC in summer) to have no curtains. So I'm looking into them. My question is, it is helpful enough to simply get curtains of a reasonably thick material, or, for insulating benefits, should I really go with curtains sold as "thermal" or insulating? I'm sure thermal must be better, but how significantly better? Any suggestions for a good online source? Is it easy to add a thermal layer behind curtains? (i'm looking at the "tab top" style) Our big living room and dining room windows bow out, so unfortunately i think i have to go with curtains rather than shades. thanks...See MoreShades vs curtains
Comments (7)Pull out your couch enough that the curtains hang straight without being squished. I have had to put a piece of board behind the legs of the sofa to keep it out from the wall. No one will see it or be able to tell there s something holding it out from the wall. I like your curtains (not fond of shades of any kind)...See MoreCurtains vs Roller Shades for sliders in a Modern ranch home?
Comments (8)WOW Great spaces. Really liking all that natural light. While I may well be in the minority, I'd like to suggest you at least consider vertical blinds. Before downsizing, I had them in the living/entry space, the den and the dining room. Would definitely use them again if I ever again have an other sliding glass patio door. They come in vinyl, wood, faux wood and fabric . I'd personally recommend the vinyl and using all one neutral color -- white or beige. Vertical blinds make it a lot easier to use the doors as doors and open and close them for that purpose -- or you can quickly just push them aside in an emergency. They're great for light control because in addition to open or closed -- pulled over the door and completely shut or pulled all the way to the side and fully opened -- when pulled over the door, the slates can be straight -- fully open -- or you can choose partially open with the tilt of the slats in either direction ... you gauge how much of a tilt and in what direction based upon sunlight available (and from what direction) and how much of it you do or do not want to let fully into the room....See MoreWindow treatment help for ground floor
Comments (3)This is such a huge question - and probably difficult to answer as we have no idea what your house looks like or what your style preferences are. Where did you live before this? What kind of window treatments did you have? How did they work for you? Have you looked at pictures and thought about style of curtains/draperies? Could you think about one room at a time? Which one needs immediate attention because of privacy or light control concerns? Yes, you can do sheers and draperies on a double rod....See MoreKrupa Shukla
