Ipe stain-dark brown options and difficulty level
Comments (31)I am involved in a very large IPE deck project in which we have already installed about 50,000 board feet of IPE on 50 new decks and we are about to install another 50,000 board feet. The project is at Lake Tahoe, CA which is at 6,000 ft. altitude and has big sun in the summer and a fair amount of snow in the winter. My question: we have been quite disappointed with the several stains that we have tried over the last two years. They seem to last six months or so. Any suggestions on a process which could give us a good look and maybe last one to two years? All suggestions are welcome. Thanks....See MoreMedallion cabinets - color variation??
Comments (25)Gowelch asked me to post these for her. Here they are! Click on each thumbnail to enlarge. Gowelch, the first photo...was, like "Wow, I've never seen mineral streaks like that before". And I would say that that one is the worst...and as a business owner, if it bothered you that much, I would replace it for you. On the other hand, it would not bother me at all...in fact, it looks interesting. Now, real question is...is this typical for a semi-custom manufacturer. I do have one in my showroom that is similar (or a bit more streaking) to the one in the third photo...so I would have to say yes. It's typical. Look at it this way...at least you know it's solid wood :-) I think it's also good to point out that stock and semi-custom are usually standard with lots of vinyl and laminate. When you upgrade with stock and semi-custom cabinets, your more likely to see more 'unclear' woods and veneers...as opposed to a custom line. For instance, my custom cherry kitchen has almost no sapwood....yet, if it was in KraftMaid or Medallion...I would definitely have it. I think this is the same thing going on with your interior rollouts. Hope this helps. Kompy...See MoreColor variation on Hosta Stained Glass
Comments (15)never heard of planta Poseidon ... not even in the library.. but it is any type of multi petaled P ... well.. dont expect to ever see a flower in bloom ... skip it ... solberg website says: on the flower bracts as well as the 30+ petaled flowers of 'Venus'. .. well.. good for him.. in 20 years.. i think my venus made it to an open flower twice ... in those two decades ... DR is also a hard one to grow .. many P plants are subject to late frost/freezes ... here in MI ... though city peeps might escape that ... good luck about changing genetics for subtle leaf colors.. yes.. siting might make a difference... but lets get real.. you either like it.. or you dont.. just like your old boyfriend.. dont try to change him ... accept him or dump him ... ken...See MoreIs this acceptable trim carpentry for stain grade clear pine trim?
Comments (6)This looks like a newbie or a framer was trimming. Not acceptable by my expectations. Since you hold the $ it is up to you to communicate your expectations. Especially before they get to far. unfortunately in this day and age people have come to this. Suppliers send out materials that are worse than before and that's their norm. Installers care and do less than before and that is their norm. While on the other end we find that many home owners are expecting more for less as well, while the cost of doing and being in business has gone up up up. so was this the lowest bidder? Did you get him off of Craigslist? If so than you are getting what you paid for. Otherwise if you have done your due diligence and gotten 2 other competing bids and this was the middle of the road guy, than hold him to the higher standards.that you expect....See MoreJAN MOYER
