what to put on kitchen wall??

Hi, this is a wall in my kitchen behind our kitchen island, and between to openings into the kitchen. I need ideas of what I can put here. I was thinking of something besides a piece of art but open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!!!

Take pictures from as far back as possible…so people can see the surroundings…

Any ideas based on this picture? It’s a white kitchen, white walls (BM chantilly lace), white cabinets, ivory backsplash and mixture of beiges in the counter topz

I prescribe headroom! (our old basement is 7 feet high, plus overhead joists, heat ducts, wiring, etc.) I don't have kids, am only cooking for two adults currently. I'm living in a camper trailer temporarily and I find that I rarely use the camper's gas cooktop because the coffee percolator, a new one-burner Max Burton induction portable unit, and a microwave are sufficient. Am also occasionally using a toaster and a toaster-oven. There is also a tiny refrigerator (the big one is in the garage). Any or all of these portable appliances can go camping with me at another time. I have a roaster oven which I might bring in also, if this remodel lasts into the summer. I'd like to learn to make cakes, etc. in it. Be sure to get sufficient electrical service to your basement kitchen. We have the camper on one circuit and all the above (except the gas unit) will allow only one heat-generating device to be in operation at once. I blow the circuit regularly because I forget. If there's a new sink involved, make it one that will serve you as a gardener and patio user--one big basin with a high faucet so you can wash garden produce, dirty feet and muddy shoes, small dogs, whole children, etc. Having a refrigerator near the patio is a great thing for holding food and ice and for stowing away uneaten food right after meal instead of leaving it sit out in the heat. Your pole barn getaway and plan for your kitchen sound very nice. Since the kitchen area typically grabs a lot of attention anyway, that can be a fantastic place to display art. Especially since you're not planning on focusing attention on a lot of rich cabinet and counter details, I'd give the quality and composition of the overall view AT the kitchen real priority in design. The openness and simplicity of no uppers is a great start.

if you have a small collection that's special to you--plates, vases, mason jars--that might be a nice place to display them: I would probably do a roman shade, hung from the top of the cabinets and a cobalt blue barn light type pendant. If had a wall light option, something simple like this is more my taste; sculptural and not cluttered:

@Ann Marie Thanks for the suggestion! I will look there. I'm a little partial to painted art rather than photography, but I'll see what they have. @lindac92 That sounds like good advice! How would the need for a lamp change what art would go in that space? I have no idea how to think about that at all. But you're right, probably I would want a table lamp there. I know from browsing around that sometimes art just goes behind a lamp, which honestly feels weird to me, but maybe it's fine. But I'm not sure how that changes what I would want to put on the wall there. @threers Thanks for the advice! I can assure you that I will most definitely only get art I love. If I'm going to look at it every day, it had better make me happy! But I would also like it to match the rest of the room if I can possibly arrange it. :) @Patricia Colwell I actually was originally thinking of having two couches (which I think may have the result of another comment of yours in another thread), but the problem is that I can't seem to make it work with our TV placement. I definitely want a couch to face the TV, and then the only real arrangement that works is to have an L-shaped arrangement. And if I'm going to have that, well, I have always liked couches with corners, so that's how I arrived at a sectional. But I'm open to other alternatives - I just don't know of any good ones. :)

how do the table and chairs fill the space.....cant really tell about a hutch as to whether it would fit in....so assuming a tall narrow piece like that Will NOT work.....and you dont want a hanging piece of art....whats left is in the actual corner.... Hard to tell your style or anything about likes/dislikes from the photo.

What’s to the left? A patio door? A window?

I can’t tell if there’s enough room for a nice tall potted plant in the corner. Can the table be pulled out away a bit? Is this your only dining table? The pendant placement makes it appear that the table should be centered under it ……

Hi, I’ll try to take more pics but there is only room to hang something on the wall. When I said preferred not art I was thinking not another picture. What else would look good hung on a wall in a kitchen? Baskets? Cutting boards! Just go with a picture?

Picture. Look on etsy -,there’s lots of ideas.

If it’s a tight space, I wouldn’t do baskets or cutting boards or shelves or anything else that sticks out.

Put something there that brings you JOY. I imagine it's not a focal point for several rooms, mostly from your work zone on the island. What are your hobbies? Collections? Display your bobblehead collection, frame the tourist maps from your favorite trips, print the lyrics from your favorite song on canvas, frame and hang up enlarged scans of your grandma's handwritten recipe cards. Anyway. You get the idea. This is a corner for you to let loose and have fun with.

Why not art? All these bare walls in homes scream for color and personaility. That equates to art. A lot of it. Real art. Not ”wall decor”. Ugh.
