Winter can be very beautiful as in your pic. Another 6" coming overnight and it is snowing lightly now. I imagine this is the same weather pattern affecting us both.

Guys, I wanted to update you on the retrofit of the Subaru motor to the Cyclone Leaf Rake. I finally got the parts and made time to adapt the thing. While I am sure that Lawnboyforever's parts are better than the kit I made, mine seemed to do the job. My one area of concern is the impeller bolt. It is one size smaller than before, the shaft is a bit shorter and the one I found is not a grade 8. I put Locktite on the threads and will get a grade 8 bolt soon to replace this one. The engine runs quietly and efficiently as I used it to do the yard for 4 hours today. It used a small amount of oil but I guess that is to be expected. I had no vibration problems or wobble of the impeller so I may be in okay shape for now. Check out the pics! I made a few 4 inch pvc houses this year. They were much cheaper to make than any place that sells gilbertsons since Steve quit. I doubt I get TRES this year at my new home, but if i do they would be ok because i used liquid nail underneath the hole and made a ladder shape. It will be interesting to test these boxes this year.

We are using Juno 5" recessed with the Wheat Haze. They seem to be a good product and have nearly every trim you would want available. If you click on the link and download the spec sheet for the housing you want, it will list all the trims available. I think the 5" are just a bit less obtrusive than the 6". You will need more 4" cans (more holes in the cieling) to get the same amount of light. I can't imagine that it costs anymore to install a 5" can versus a 6" one, but the housing might be more costly. I bought ours online at Laner Electric: (http://www.laner.com/ ) for less than $14.00 each. Trims vary in price between $6.00 and $50.00 Here is a link that might be useful: Juno 5

If anyone of the previous experts still checks this thread, I would love for you to weigh in....Which would be least likely to cup (or would it be equal): 1x4 ipe decking or 5/4x6 (face screwing with joists every 16” OC, 6” of ventilation underneath, covered porch, desert climate). The supplier said that the 5/4x4 would be least likely to cup, but it pushes our budget too far (in an ideal world, I would love to be able to get away with 1x6 from both a cost/labor and aesthetics perspective, but the supplier said 1x6 would have a high cupping risk…bummer!).

You are both lucky to have snow. I have many memories of getting out on a bright snowy morning and playing in the snow. I also enjoy waking in the crisp squeaky snow. I also remember it does present some problems.

HOWEVER, when compared to a rainy 40 degree day in Eastern Carolina, when the cold permeates every thing: I will take the snow any day.

I do not know how you do it. 77 degrees here right now. I will have a taste of that weather this weekend. Temps in the low 30ies. Stay warm.

i have no where to go.. no reason to go anywhere.. enough food and booze to last me a week .. [in the olden days.. a carton of cigarettes would have been the last purchase before snuggling in....]

AND IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE I AM STUCK IN/AT THE HOUSE ... lol ..

just like when the car is in the shop for the day ... if the car were in the driveway ... meh.. no where to go .. take the option away.. and i border on insanity ...

than God for my hard fast rule of no drinking before 7pm ...

ps: the storm petered out a few hours early ... not sure we got the minimum 6 inches.. but rather close .. waiting for the driveway to be plowed ... bright sunshiny day right now.. the kind of light where if you went outside.. .. when you came in.. you'd have to sit in a chair for a few minutes before you could see anything in your house cave ... [and you sure as heck dont want to go out in.. if you did start drinking before 7pm last night.. not hangover light levels.. lol..]

4" wet snow here yesterday, but ground was warm enough to shrink it quite a bit today. No real problems. Temps steady at 32F for 24 hrs and counting.

What WE had here in suburban Baltimore was a day and night of rain. Pounding on my roofing like a percussion section in an orchestra, endless rain. I'd rather have rain than snow, don't have to shovel it. Dreaming of the SPRING, wanna see the stuff I planted in my raised cedar beds blooming and growing, want to see my roses bloom...

O, I think some of that is headed our way soon. I am good at hibernating - reading, knitting, sewing, faffing out on the internet. We have just had a rare, ground freezing week - there was a thaw this morning, so I rushed back from the dogwalk to spend a bit of time in the garden...which is looking bedraggled and dismal. All the activity is mostly in the little pots of small bulbs. Agave has died and a couple of the agapanthus are looking doomed. I expect there will be other losses.... I hope so, in fact, as I am still in space denial for the coming apocalypse of millions of labelless pots

Indianapolis Wed..wet and heavy..the trees are weighed down..

Thurs..the snow is disappearing..the streets, driveways etc aren’t as snowy as the ground..we can get by without shoveling..

the forecast said 5-9 inches but that didn’t happen..yay!..

ken..very funny comments about being “stuck in/at the house”..😂

I want to be home working in my garden more than anywhere on earth..since retirement I’m almost always home..husband has a truck..I have a Honda CRV..the mileage on both nearly stopped since 2015 at retirement..but the thought of just one vehicle is out of the question 😂..

my retired neighbors have one vehicle..seems sensible but I can’t do it Lol..

i ended up going out.. the driveway was plowed.. its melting clean..and 2 or 3 more is possible.. so i got while the gettin was good ... went to the market ....

the clock says 2:06 pm.. but im feeling like its got to be 7 oclock somewhere.. lol ..
