I would call an Electrician for a consultation and cost to add recessed lighting, at the vert least around the perimeter of the room. If you can define the furniture placement, sconce lights may be another option. I always prefer up/down shining sconce lights to flood the wall.

It's a personal choice.

I would also paint that dark wall white or at least a very light shade of what you have.

You need to bounce light off the surfaces. When you want a dark accent wall, my suggestion is always to accent the wall where the light is coming from... with light refleting off the opposit walls.

Your furniture is very dark, imagine especially at night.

If you aren't up for electrical work, and merely want to add table and floor lams, I would paint the walls and ceiling a much lighter color.

You could probably add at least three more lamps - either on end tables or as floor lamps - and it will feel a lot better to you. End tables also make the room more welcoming. Lamps are much nicer for ambiance than overhead lighting. Even in rooms where I have recessed lighting, I have several lamps. You could even add a console table behind the couch and put smaller lamps on that, if you don’t think you have space for end tables. The furniture and walls are on the dark side. Do you have some light colored throws you could drape on one of the larger pieces to lighten things up?

I would add a bunch of lamps. Of course, I'm a big lamp person, but any time it's dark in a space and I see a dark corner, I want pleasant warm light illuminating it. We have a ton of lamps as a result. I think in this situation, an arc style lamp would help significantly. Get bright lamps and point them at the wall. The glow will help illuminate the room without glare.
