Geese moving back in
Comments (1)Jay, We've seen random geese flying north but not big flocks....just a dozen or two here or there. This week, mallard ducks showed up and have been staying on our big pond. Since March is a mere three weeks away, I expect the purple martins are making their way up through Texas too but I haven't checked the Martin Watch website lately to see. Some years we see the scout birds here as early as mid-February. I am seeing more song birds daily but am not sure if the migration is on or if they are just coming for the bird feeders. The American Goldfinches haven't left yet and they usually leave our house between mid- and late-Feb. so we'll know soon if they are going to head north 'on time' or not. It is cold and it is raining, but I still think this will be a little wimp of a storm compared to what we had in Dec. and Jan. The bird activity in the yard on the native berry bushes and at the feeders and birdbaths was higher than normal today, but not the huge numbers of birds we had in December. I'm hoping the worst of the winter weather is behind us. I am so ready to get out into the yard and do somsething---but even the wildflowers that normally bloom in January and February have barely begun to show themselves. I haven't seen a single hatching grasshopper yet and that's a good sign. When they are hatching in Jan. and Feb. that means we'll have a lot of damage from them so not seeing any hatching early can only be good news. On the other hand, there's so many birds here that maybe they are eating the grasshoppers as they hatch. Dawn...See MoreA little OT on a day it shouldn't be so gloomy!
Comments (3)Wonderful post, Jim. My wife and I were married on October 14th, it was also a beautiful day-mid 70's and spectacular color. We married at Beaver lake (outside) and the geese were so loud, we had to yell our vows. We like to go to Lake Placid and walk around Mirror Lake to enjoy the foilage. One year we took the horsebuggy ride but I think the walk is more gratifying. You and Dale should try it. Happy Anniversary! Paul F B...See MoreA Gloomy Friday!!!!!
Comments (14)Luvs, it's been a while since I thought about "child proofing" my house, but with a new niece coming in Feb I have been looking at things more carefully. Guess you will have to do the same! He is a little stinker! lol Have to start calling him Piro! I have a few friends who use the Peapod grocery delivery and love it. We don't have it here yet or I would consider it especially in winter!! Unfortunately I have not had time to paint yet. I have a few ideas of some things I want to get done, but no time to work on any of them yet. Hope to get working on them this week, but I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year so probably not gonna get anything significant done til after that holiday. I want to do the 12 days of Christmas, but so far no family has stood out to me that I know. Still thinking on it. Was thinking about finding some little platters at the $1 store and attaching a little poem "When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang out of my bed and tripped over this platter" for my neighbor gifts. Most people can use an extra tray or platter for goodies during the season. Will maybe make some goodies to go on the platter and maybe add "So I filled it with goodies in hopes it makes your season gladder"?? I don't know...kinda sounds cheesy! lol Still thinking about it. Also thought about making "snowball" cookies and putting them in a pail or something painted with a snowman head?? Oh actually I just remembered I bought some small snowman head cookie jars on clearance last year so that would be perfect!! Woot! Thanks for helping me brainstorm! lol I am running out of time, but I seem to work better under pressure! ha Well, just wanted to check in with you ladies. I promised I'd do better and I'm sincerely trying to get here a few times a week! I have to do my Thanksgiving shopping on Monday but perhaps I'll be back here on Tues. Talk to y'all then. ~Anj...See Moreback for more backsplash help
Comments (26)I like the idea of a creamier color. I think you need to brighten things up. Agree that glass tiles would seem too modern for your kitchen; although it does have a bit of a transitional look to it with the counter, floor, and light fixture, the cabinets are a big feature and don't. I would try painting the backsplash area in the gray color first before taking the plunge. It looks very dim and grayed in there, though the lights aren't on! Terribly tough decisions!...See Morepopmama (Colorado, USDA z5)
