Same color would be pretty - and easy. When you cut or adjust a formula, you're creating a completely different color. Every dimension of the color is changed, hue, value, chroma, LRV. The new color might resemble the old color in some way, but there's no way to know until you have it mixed, dry it out and look at it. In the case of Agreeable Gray specifically, if you cut it by 50% you get a light gray that looks a lot like SW 6000 Snowfall. Agreeable Gray and Snowfall don't look good together - they don't "go" together. If you want a color that looks like Agreeable Gray, just lighter try White Heron SW 7627 for the ceiling. If you pull all three chips, Agreeably Gray, Snowfall and White Heron, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Holly...I couldn’t open the first link. The second one...oh my. I’ve seen this house and the other cottages. They are dreamy. Can’t imagine being the wealthy original owners of this home and coming here in the summer to escape the heat..., lol. Ive been here twice. Once with dh and our girls when they were young. They didn’t appreciate the place., bored to tears and crabby. Then a girls trip with my sister and elderly mother..not much fun then either, since she couldn’t get around. Your post made me think that dh and I will go alone before he and I are too old to enjoy this beautiful place. Such amazing houses. And I agree with you, if done right the coffered ceilings are timeless. and mark..lots of fudge.

I think that's a tray ceiling, not coffered (at least, that's what it's called where I am). Is this in style where you are? Maybe context will help... i.e. size of home, exterior design, interior, etc. Maybe this is perfectly appropriate for this particular style of home and its location. I seldom use the word "dated" but to me, that ceiling is something from early 2000's and / or the faux Tuscan period. How old is this model home? it certainly is not unique or even unusual to have a 2-tone tray ceiling from that period of time... though I don't think too many are being built like that now.... at least, not where i live. I would do a substantial crown and a white ceiling. That will give you the opportunity to make the room a show stopper. A white ceiling and crown molding are always (in my opinion) in style.

As said by Mark, I don't think anyone would notice. The coffer will actually help disguise the recessed lights and the speakers. We are building and will have a coffered ceiling through the entire great room (family room and kitchen.) I've not given our ceiling much thought other than to make sure everything is in symmetry. In the family room, we are not using recessed lights in the coffers except for an eyeball pointed toward the FP mantle (in gray). We prefer natural light and lamp lighting. We will have a centered fan, but no lights on that. We also have two bump out areas. One houses a large group of bookshelves that stretch across one end of the room. There will be 4" recessed lights over the bookcases (in gray). The other bump-out will have an entertainment credenza with our T.V. mounted on the wall above. There will be 4" recessed lights over this area (in gray). The kitchen area will have recessed cans in the outer coffered boxes, and two hanging lights over the middle island. I did not include the whole kitchen layout in this attachment. Our in ceiling speakers are located in the coffers on either side of the middle (see in yellow.)
