What's the end game? If someone says blue...then you have counters to change too. Are you asking for a color that still keeps the rest as is? I would find somewhere else to put your money.

The dark brown looks a little heavy for my taste. I would paint them white.

Do they need painting? If not, I wouldn't paint them just for the sake of changing their color. I would, however, add pretty cabinet hardware which should serve to upgrade the overall look as well as help with functionality.

if you have the formula or can locate the formula, get a couple new upper doors w some frosted glass or even clear glass with grids. that would be worth more than painting everything . the surface looks in good shape...too much of a cost to paint everything. then on to champagne bronze /brass/gold hardware. If you want more of a change however just paint the uppers a white close to the backsplash tile... then on to warm hardware /nice if you did that

You could do white upper cabinets and keep the bottoms dark.

There is nothing wrong with the color they are. I would definitely leave them. I do agree, they could use new hardware.

Its easy to underestimate the work (and maintenance) involved in ”just paint them”. No way would i paint those.

Make other changes with more impact, less labor: change out the over-the-range microwave to a proper exhaust hood, add undercabinet lighting, add hardware.

natural wood cabinets are coming back. i would keep these.

The countertop would not be terribly expensive to change if you can get it out without damaging the backsplash. I would do that instead, and add hardware.

New hardware and make sure you have good under cabinet lighting.
