How to fix/replace the shower glass door SEAL?

I bought a seal replacement yet was not able to take the old one off.

It's at the door bottom. Without seeing what's going on there, even if I could take the old one off, I'm not able to install the new one.

Q1. Is it universal for the door bottom for the groove width and height? I am trying to see if I can do it without seeing mine?

Q2. Or perhaps, it's easier to take the glass door off? It's not like regular door with the door hingess and pins. Is it easy to take the door off?

Q3. If the door is successfully taken off, how do I clean the old seal and replace the new?

Pictures would help. Framed or a frameless door? Framed not all are the same. Again post up pictures of the end of the door, the existing door bottom end profile if you can and what you purchased as a replacement.

it depends on the spacing used between the glass. there are vinyl sweeps that slide onto the edge of the glass similar to the one that should have been used along the bottom and actually top. problem with these are that they take away from the 'frameless' look even thought they are clear plastic. how long has it been since you had this installed? I see the indents now. I wouldn't try to remove the aluminum piece from the glass. Instead, I would use a Dremel and carefully grind away the lip on the aluminum channel (on the side closest to the handle). It appears that if you can grind the aluminum next to the steel piece that the rusted bit would lift out with some gently prying or slide out the end... Then clean up the rest of the aluminum with a file so you have a straight edge. Any idea of what you're going to replace it with?

To Op- sometimes a cheaply made bypass door will lift off the rollers because of the thin glass the manufacturer used. I have seen doors with 1/8” glass. I never recommended anything less than 3/16, but preferred 1/4” or 3/8. For top of the line, I used 1/2”. Be sure you see and feel theses different thicknesses of glass. Physically, the bypass doors stay in the space because of gravity; they hang on the top track. Therefore, any lifting motion will cause them to come off. One solution is a heavier door. You might look at a 3/8” glass frameless bypass unit. The edges of the glass will be polished, the only metal is attached to your walls so you still have the clean look. In addition, this configuration does use any floor space as a swing/ hinge door does. Again, a good glass company with floor displays will be able to offer you options.

Would also appreciate some advice. I have a patio door with same transom above. But my door has the seal bulging on the outside (NOT between panes). Can this be easily fixed? Can it be pushed back in? Thanks

No. The easiest way is to remove the old seal & then shop for a replacement seal. The old seal should slide out of the groove without a need to remove the door.

Framed shower, no universal parts. You will definitely need to remove the old one to match it up for a replacement. It shoudl just slide in and or out. I may be gunked up pretty good in there making it tougher to slide out but it will slide out.

Needle nose pliers, picks, really small flat blade screwdriver will help to remove it.

Ah. thank you all!!! I did try with only my own finger power (ah, did not work at all).

I was Able to find the replacement seal at Home Depot.
