Thank you call for your comments! I do appreciate them. We've had the bed in between those 2 narrow windows for the longest time now. We really just wanted to a change. It also made watching the TV a bit more difficult with the TV on the side wall like that. Those were our two main reason for wanting to move things around. But you make a good point, Cheryl - about walking all the way around the bed. I moved the furniture we currently have around to see how it would feel and I do not like having to navigate all the way around like that. Suzmtl, the wall of windows faces our covered back desk. Unfortunately, even though it's a west facing window, the covered back deck doesn't let much natural light shine though. And those narrow windows the opposite side of the room don't let much natural light in either. When my children were infants, I appreciated the little dark cocoon feel, but now - not so much :) Also, I tried moving the furniture around that way you suggest - with the bed on that opposite wall and my husband didn't like it. So scratch that. I guess I'm back to the original layout, though I'm still uncertain how the TV is going to play out. Maybe I'll move the smaller/long media table from my son's room into he bedroom in front of the windows instead?? Would this look ok? (Btw, the main entry door doesn't look just like that, but it was the best I could to show the layout).

Have you tried the orange settee and the two chairs facing each other, perpendicular to the fireplace? With the pouf or the round table in the middle? Or the small round table between the chairs? That makes a cozy destination at the end, worth walking through the living room.

I can't speak regarding exact sizes or dimensions...the size of things you should or should not get but.... I can give some thoughts on overall layout and placement of furniture. First, I'm assuming from the photo that the kitchen is attached to living area? I seem to see kitchen sink in foreground of photo? Either way, for a long narrow room and where you want a couch/seating, I personally think it's important to try and 'soften' the room...because it's long and narrow, whatever you put in the room could add to that boxy or straight/hard feeling. When I say 'soften' I mean... I like furniture at slight angles...or not perfectly straight. I never press a couch directly against the wall. It feels stiff and feels like lack of air flow ('chi'). I would pull couch at least 2" from wall. Also, instead of one long (stiff/straight-looking) couch, how about a loveseat, and then 1-2 chairs on either side of the loveseat or couch, turned at a slight inward angle ...so the loveseat and the two chairs almost create a very soft C-shape? I'm also a fan of round side tables vs square ones, again, to help 'soften' hard lines. Put a round side table between the loveseat and one of the side chairs. Another option is to add a pedestal light with a globe lampshade, at either end of the couch. A tree plant in one of the corners of the living area (say one of the corners by the entry door) creates a focal point, adds 'life' to the room and vertical interest.

So this is a sofa with a chaise. Is this your furniture or the previous owner's furniture? You're right to be concerned about blocking the walkway. I don't see that giving the long wall over to the TV is the right call for this space. Are you prepared to think outside the box for this room? What is the dimension of the room?
